So I've got a 3 week europe road trip planned in the summer, I may also try and get another trip to the alps in this year or if not I'll definitely be going next summer.
I'll be taking my Bike (Approx ~3k worth) on each trip and while it'll be securely locked in the van I'd rather make sure I've got some watertight insurance cover for it.
So what are the best options; some sort of specialist bike insurance policy, change my car insurance for one that covers bikes? (Just renewed so not the best option), get them covered on my home insurance (Is it even possible to cover bikes in a car in Europe on home insurance?)
Thoughts please!!
I'm pretty sure my bikes are covered in Europe on M&S house policy. I'll doubt you'll get car insurance to cover it, but i'd have thought you could get it covered on travel insurance? Would probably be cheaper in the long run as a claim on the house insurance will probably be similar excess but you'll pay for it over the next few years of increased premiums, and you'll have to have travel insurance anyway.
Car/van insurance will not cover.
The cheapest option is to just chance it.
Second would be to specify on your home insurance. More often than not will be covered world wide if not just Europe . As Nick says, if you claim you'll be looking at increased premiums for the next few years.
Thirdly would be a standalone bike insurance.
Most policies have conditions on items left in vehicles while left unattended so check before you purchase anything.
Edit: forgot about travel insurance. Most I've looked at have a maximum article limit of £1000 so you may fall short on the bike.
