Will inner tubes used in 2.1" tyres fit ok with 1.5" slick tyres, or will it be a bit of a tight fit? Rather not purchase extra tubes if i can help it.

no, their volume is too large to fit in 1.5" tyres. I tried once and lost a good tube. It blew apart under high pressure.
narrow tubes are generally lighter than 2.1" ones, they're worth buying (I like continentals).

If you can squeese the tubes in then they will be fine, but you may have trouble trying not to pinch the tube on the rim.
