Seeing the thread about getting knocked off your bike made me realise that I don't have any insurance (third party or otherwise), which I should probably sort. I used to be a member of the BCF, way back in the last Nineties, as I thought I might go racing, which I didn't.

Is the choice still between British Cycling or the Cyclists' Touring Club...? If not, who else should I be looking at and who are generally regarded as the go to Insurer these days?

correct me if I'm wrong, but the insurance offered by BC & Cycling UK (as CTC is now called) is of no use if you get hit. It's solely to provide cover if YOU are at fault i.e. cause an accident and a motorist or another cyclist claims off you.

Both organisations provide a helpline number in the event of you getting hit, but you won't actually be talking to them AFAIK, they are handing you off to a no-win-no-fee law firm. I see no reason why you couldn't just contact a NWNF firm yourself if you needed too. Certainly have never heard a situation where someone's been a CUK/BC member & they've gone above & beyond to provide help but happy to hear different! (longtime CUK member purely for the 3rd party insurance)

I'm reading  The Colour of Magic for the first time - what's the odds of seeing Inn Sewer Ants twice in one day?

And if it's just 3rd party insurance you're after (i.e. people claiming off you for damage that you cause) you may well already be covered if you have a home contents policy.  This typically provides general purpose 3rd party liability cover, although there may still be benefits to a cycling-specific policy.

Stick with BC - I've used their solicitors a number of times and they get the results - and I'm also being sued in a 'no fault' accident - I was knocked off by a car, bike then bounced into another cyclist knocking him off, driver pegged it.

Your home policy should have it, but with BC you have solicitors specialising in the sport.

About the same as me reading it on the same day as I wore my Discworld socks, on the commute to work, for the first time.

OOK!!

Not it as often as the Broken / Mended Drum will see a claim.

I was wondering if anyone would get the reference. 😀

As for actual Inn-Sewer-Ants, I'll have to check the household policy, but feel like I should prolly get some cycle specific cover, so might take out a British Cycling membership again...
