[#5778068]

As the resident bike consultant in the village, just had a text from a good mate after a bike for his son, for Christmas!
Budget £150!
Checked eBay for Pinnacles and Paul's cycles.
Obviously will tell him he has no chance, but if anyone has any ideas...
He's 13yrs old and not tall for his age. (The son)

Tight, but not impossible. It can take some time to go second hand and get a good one - which may be the issue...

Does it have to be new?
Tried CRC?
Always lots of decent offers on BMXs but less on smaller MTBs

Maybe a BMX instead? Whats the boy like? When I was 13 I would shudder to think what kind of bike my parents would have got me!

There are 6 BMX's on CRC under £150, but the cheapest MTB is £294!

Tough one with a week and a bit til Xmas. Octoiber and November is easier... But secondhand bikes are out there. Plenty of brands that don't have amazing residuals. Voodoo GT Felt even Careers!

Blimey, cheers guys.
Yeah second hand is fine.
I thought BMX too, might run it passed him.
Can't find any cheap small mtb on chain reaction.
That voodoo looks awesome.

That last link to pink bike is my old employer - the bikes are good, and they will ( if you plead) pop in a box and take to post office...

I have one of these for sale for £100:

24" wheels so it depends how short a 13 year old he is.

I also have one if these for sale (26" wheels) for £150

My (slightly taller than average) 13 year old has been riding it for a while and it is a decent fit.

In the Bristol area if interested, email in profile

If his son isn't, then I will take it for my lad and encourage Gus to spend £150 on a full suss from toys r us. See how he likes that.

Thanks eskay, Fynn loves his new bike. It is in great condition as promised. TBH I really liked that bike. I will look at Commencal for myself when funds allow a xc hard tail.
Anyway thanks again.

I sold my daughters Giant Rincon for less than that and it wasn't a vast amount more new. Perfectly capable bike in near new condidtion, even the fork was OK. My sons Mongoose Rockadile went for less than £100. It was bit more tatty but still a trail centre capable bike

Loads of options here

Hi jkomo. I have been away over Christmas and have only just checked this thread. I am really glad he was pleased with the bike. I hope he has many happy hours riding ahead of him on it.

Essay, is that the one I sold you?
If so, it's a great little bike.

Hi wrecker, only just noticed your post on this thread. Possibly - were you in Mangotsfied?

My son decided shortly after buying it that he was a road/track cyclist and did not like mountain biking so it sat in the garage doing nothing.

I wanted to hold onto it as it was a nice bike but he needed some funds to pay for a winter hack bike.
