Hi guys,
A friend of mine was enquiring as to the best method and cheapest! way of shipping a bike from Canada.
Thought I'd sling it out there to the Singletrack massive
Any advice appreciated ๐Ÿ™‚

One piece of advice: split it into two parcels. Duty is 14%(?) on bikes, 4%(?) on bike parts

Thanks druidh, is there anyway to avoid the duty if its secondhand or a 'gift'?

I've never tried to avoid duty, but in terms of the practicalities of shipping, I would definitely split it and box it well. To save money, I would probably send by surface. Unless it's a rush.

IIRC it doesn't make any difference if it's a gift or 2nd hand.

Ok, any recommended shipping companies from previous experience?

Sorry - no. The only reason I know the above is that I bought a bike from Alaska and they'd sent it in two boxes.

If you're boxing it in parts, why not try Canada Post surface mail?

biggest cost will be VATat 20% though. Value for customs a difficult thing if second hand but they'd essentially want it to be priced at what the equivalent UK item would be. So not much saving really.....
