Whatever the veggie option is in the canteen. Unless it's pasta, when I'll have the meat option without the fast carbs.

TBH head cold = feel like s--t = want to lie down.

If you're at home, do yourself an English omlette.

You know.

3-4 eggs
Bacon
sausage
mushrooms
onion
sliced toms
Edit Spinach too
assorted seasoning.

However, if you've got to shop at a super market.
A couple of Scotch Eggs won't go amiss, some hummous, cherry toms.

For that matter you could just have a kebab, bin the pitta.

onions and chorizo in (made a big batch earlier in the week), with spinach, tomatoes and sardines
Now that IS full of win.

Solo - any ideas for using spinach? I really struggled with it but the iron content is a winner! It seems to come in such huge bags which, tbh, is a bit wasteful.

I take it you haven't cooked a bag of spinach before?

That massive bag ends up as a small handful once you've cooked it!

Remains (albeit somewhat large) of last night's homemade lamb mince curry. No rice or bread - just celery and homemade coleslaw. Big nom.

I'm cooking for one and like to have a variety of veg with my meal. But that soup sounds nice. 🙂

I buy the prewahsed organic bags from Sainsbury's
Otherwise I buy the no washed and wash it myself (thats a drag though)
I generally substitute lettuce in my salad with Spinach leaves.
So make your usual salad, but reduce or omitt the lettuce and replace with Spinach.

I've also read that cooking Spinach may increase the amount of iron one can get from it.
So, take a stack of leaves and chop them.
Them sprinkle into your chilli, ragu sauce or omlette.

Usually Spinach goes into as much as I can get away with adding it to.

Recently I had used it less and it made a noticable difference.
I don't normally buy into all this super food malarkey.
But ime, Spinach is special.

I hope that helps.
😉

Another great idea and example of how to make it MUCH easier.

I always buy frozen spinach as it comes "pre-shrunk".

Also, re: iron in spinach. Apparently as well as containing lots of iron it also contains lots of iron absorption-inhibiting substances! So the high-iron content may be a bit of a red herring. Not sure though, it's all a bit confusing!

Just my opinion here, but go easy with the Almonds and ensure you're getting enough protein each day.
I don't see any meat there.
Are you planning on including meat with this evening's meal.

Solo,

give it a go, just make a nice spicy chilli, cram it with extra peppers, jalapenos, mushrooms and beans then top with mashed squash, butter bean and cauli mash. Stick in the oven with a bit of fry light on top and bake for 45 minutes. The spicy chilli and sweet taste of the mash go really well and taste better when re-heated!

Breakfast, lunch, dinner = anything goes for me. I tend to make big batches of things and mix them up over a two or three day period. I've not had eggs in a while so actually fancying a nice big omelette!

Cheat day tomorrow, I wont be going mad, but I see pizza on the horizon! I'm of for a days DH at Aston so plenty of exercise pushing up that hill!

I'm not really doing it for weight loss, although I have probably lost ten pounds since mid jan. I'm quite into my weight workouts at the moment, so sometimes have protein and oats before training. I just feel really good eating this way and cheat day is no big deal as I'm happy eating what I do day to day.

My wife has lost almost a stone and this has encouraged her to get back in the gym after a three year absence, she is looking great and feeling happy, so so it's win win for me. The main issue for me is variety and my lack of imagination, so I will have a go at most recipes posted.

Thats the right way to approach it, imo.

Well, not sure about you guys, but here in the West Mids today, the fog has lifted and the sun IS OUT !.
Spring is Sprunging !.
😀
And so I find my thoughts turning to salads with chunks of steak, fish or Pork liberally included, all dressed in home made Olive oil and cyder vinegar based salad dressings.

and BBQ's, grilled toms, large, lean steaks on the grill
Homemade dippin sauces.

Its all good.

🙂

Thanks Solo. 🙂 I bought some fresh spinach earlier but as I was having lambs liver for dinner, decided that perhaps I could overdose on iron and would use the spinach tomorrow instead.

But I still don't get this eating meat for breakfast! It just seems so wrong. 😐

Ton.

Thanks for that.
When are you planing for your iDay off ?.
Most seem to go for a day during the weekend.

CG.
Breakfast seems to be more about what not to have.
As you may know, it seems to be one of the more challenging meals for new iDieters.

To my mind, if you must have breaky.
Then meat / protein is probably good as I believe it takes longer to digest, so therefore, delays the production of Ghrelin.
Ghrelin is a hunger hormone.
I was doing some more reading yesterday, about Ghrelin.
Its a powerful hormone which appears to significantly influences a persons food choices when they are hungry (when the stomach in empty).

So I'm thinking, if your diet deals with and allows you to avoid hunger.
Then your food choices will be more in line with your goals.

Diets higher in protein appear to deal with hunger, better.
I can certainly say thats been the case with me.
I'm not a meat monster, but I've upped my protein intake and I don't really get cravings / the munchies, nowadays.
😀

solo, i might have 2 off days.
i have been fasting since last night cos i am in hospital this afternoon for a camera down.
i am then fasting from 7pm on sunday cos i go in for a heart procedure on monday morning.
so i might have a pig out day tomorrow, but to be honest there is nothing that i am craving so far.
also i dont know if i want to put all the good work to waste.
is it detrimental not having a day off?

is it detrimental not having a day off?

Firstly, sympathies for all the fasting you're going to have over the next few days.
Good luck with the Hospital stuff.
😉

As for missing your day off.
As you and most will know, iDave suggests one day in 7, as a day off.
However, I have seen mention of that being stretched to 10 days between days off.
I believe that the most important thing with iDiet though is not to completely stop the days off as they are needed to prevent your body slowing its metabolism as a reaction to constant low GI foods.

Days off, prevent certain changes in the body taking over, which would reduce the weight loss significantly.

Therefore, the message is, a Day off is important to achieving your goal on the iDiet
In my Experience.

So, no matter how much you're enjoying the new foods and recipes you find when you change to iDiet.
Do the day off, too

🙂
