[Closed] if an industry insider shows themselves to be a ****

[#2840040]

Just wondering out loud, if an industry insider acts in a a certain manner, i assume STW would never try and protect them? This is triggered by the missing thread earlier, but i have wondered this about all cycling mags, things like the Specialized love in that was MBR, the stories i have heard about how MBUK conducted some tests, etc.

I just want to know that advertising does not affect any aspect of the editorial policy of the magazine? That freebies, Junkets, threats, etc are treated with the respect they deserve? and not allowed to interfere with the truth?

S'funny - my last post on that thread was pondering on the lack of a ban....

... and then the post disappeared.

I don't get how people can be so stupid to fall for such an obvious troll. The only way to react to things as dumb as that is not to reply. Every time you reply, he wins.

Wasn't this the tool who threatened the STW crew via Twitter and was going to take them to court/introduce them to Mr Sledgehammer/scweam and scweam 'till he was sick?

Anyone got a link to that Twitter feed?
If I remember correctly, it was hilarious.

Shhh... you'll set them off again. Once they start competing to prove who is most offended it can go on for days.

Ah, just found the thread in question. ๐Ÿ™‚

ton - Member

pastcaring.............nail/head.

His original post about SPD's didn't wind me up in the slightest, as it was such an obvious troll.

But he seemed so pleased with himself about it later on in the thread that I thoroughly enjoyed seeing him loose his temper & spit his dummy.

That whole 'Don't you know who I am?' thing on Twitter was just soooo funny as well.
He's far more amusing than some of the regular bores on here - can we keep him?

I think threads like that should be kept open, cos then it gives idiots like me something to do rather than bothering decent folk on other threads. ๐Ÿ™‚

We can all argue and bicker in one place without causing a fuss elsewhere.

the mags listed above are very fair with reviews and not swayed by advertising. the worst i dealt with had threats of removal of editorial features/reviews if advertising was removed. nice

I am on a quest to find bike riders who aint total cocks and it is a tough call,

I am sure the people whose products you sell are enthusiastic to hear of your latest marketting strategy of insulting potential customers

I'm unsure I follow G.R.F.'s lead but, as Elf says, keep those arguments open guys. Nobody would close a helmet thread if TJ was speaking his thoughts there, would they? So why close one where somebody else says what more than a lot of people think?
BTW Roadies are often thick, whatever lycra they wear. Thick but fit and fast. I ain't fit nor fast.

market destructive CRC style

By market destructive I assume you mean good value, successful, that kind of thing?

I kind of like market destructive companies.

You're not my 'target market'.

It's not whether I am or not. I presume "bike riders" are for you and some of the brands you represent. Referring to the majority of bike riders as total cocks is probably not a strategy your brands would appreciate.

I mean, perhaps you just do it (troll) for the sport or whatever but really in your position, MD, Director, Representative, and at your age (what are you, mid sixties?) you should show a little responsibility and be able to rise above.

I'm kind of confused G.R.F., are you saying I have to choose between my road bikes, my mountain bikes and my city bike? That I'm not allowed to embrace the many forms of cycling or enjoy the meeting of minds of such a diverse group as that that posts here. I do, however, agree with you on the point about thick skin, dishing it out and taking it and the pissing off of those who aren't the target audience.

You're assuming that the vast majority of bike riders don't think that the vast majority of other bike riders are total cocks. If they do... then he might be onto something. There's a fine line between idiocy and genius.

Long shot, but maybe you should take a looooooong hard look at yourself first, if you're serious with that statement.

Well if you must know, the people who's products I sell, on a personal level, find my 'sense of humour' just fine and our sales performance outstanding,

You clearly have no grasp of PR but I'd almost bet someone at the end of Dakines (for example) various contact addresses ( http://www.dakine.com/customer-service/) would not find your 'sense of humour' 'just fine' if they were emailed links to your various posts and tweets discussing you.

The target audience is surely those that don't ride bikes, it's why the boat show/bike show was so successful.

Who are well informed and get advice from all sorts of areas, trade shows, the press and even work colleagues, you know, that bike riding nerd in the IT dept... Don't underestimate the power of recommendations of peers.

jez, i only started the thread 'cause i wanted to know why the thread got pulled. Over the years i have heard of far too many stories of mags saying things to keep the advertisers happy.

The ageism bit was someone suggesting you get wiser as you get older so it was hardly disparaging.

I'm sooo confused right now.

I've spent thousands on bikes and biking related products.
My household income is in the top percentile according the Department of National Statistics.

I have 5 bikes at the moment and am always chopping and changing parts, so why do surf sales not consider me to be within their target market?

G.R.F?
