My partner has just come in after being out for a ride with her friends. They stopped by the local for a glass of wine(or 3 i think) before heading home and they had chained their bikes up round the back.

Some idiot has tried to saw through the U lock and when that wasnt succesful they have attempted to saw through her suspension fork! As if that would have worked.

What a bloody horrible thing to do! I am fuming!

Tossers. Bang out of order.

Which bit of the fork was it?

It takes about 5 seconds to saw through an ally frame, so lots of valuable kit can be had without the hassle of doing the lock.

It was the left stanchion. Its not went in far. Maybe a mm or so I reckon but its obviously ruined. 3 months old aswell.

The both of us have locked our bikes in the same spot, without incident for the past 3 years. This will put an end to the post ride beverages!

It was a Suntour Epicon. The bike is a womens Boardman Comp. A few bikes were chained together and it was locked throught the wheel and fork to another frame. Even if they sawed through the fork they wouldn't have got anywhere.

That makes it even more infuriating as it was completely pointless!

It is deep enough that I wouldn't want her to risk using them. It's at least a mm deep. She's already been looking at Rock Shox she has no chance of getting!

Brakes is right, get varnishing and polishing.

Take your bike into the pub garden or leave it locked up where you can it.

If it's only 1mm deep, I can't see it causing any serious problems...

they had chained their bikes up round the back.

Perhaps round the back seems to be the wrong place - I try to leave stuff locked up in the most public place I can, I don't like to leave a bike tucked out of sight
