Looking at a few videos and articles riding in Iceland has really caught my imagination. Scenery looks amazing, its not too far away and the riding looks like a lot of singletrack and some 'endroish' stuff.
Has anyone been? Any tips or advice? Icebikeadventures look like the company to go with?
it would be a long term aim for me to get a bit fitter and get prepared for a trip so any advice welcome!
Iceland do free delivery on food, no need to take the MTB there.
I did the WOW Clyclothon around Iceland this year, it was awesome and I was absolutely awestruck by Icelands scenery. By cycling around it's edge the variation and changes of different types of scenery is amazing and sometimes I was looking out on views that were so spectacular it was difficult to process and somehow didn't look real. I think an MTB adventure would be a brilliant way to see the country and get out amongst it.
I can't offer any specific advice unfortunately, but what I can say is that Iceland is so geared up for more adventurous holidays. The airport is full of people looking like they are heading out into the wilds to enjoy this spectacular county, so I suspect you won't have any problems finding a wealth of companies that offer varying types of adventures.
Icebikeadventures are great and good hosts too.
Weather was pretty bad for us in July a few years ago but we did some extreme stuff, like being on top of a glacier etc.
Was a bit too much for my GF!
Not cheap but the best stuff isn't.
Charlie BM did a trip a couple of years back, some write-ups linked from this DC page might be of interest.
Am I working the exchange rate out correctly with the prices on the website? One of them was about £1700 pp for 3 days?
It does look amazing though!
Everything in Iceland is scarily expensive.... 🙂
Great place, Amazing views, Bloody expensive, Weather can be terrible even in June.. we bike packed around for 14 days. well worth a trip.. Don't be surprised if someone starts mowing the grass around your tent at 2am!!!
if you need an advice contact me.... I'll help where i can.
D
Didn't that JohnCimber bloke go there recently. I'm sure his Flickr feed has a bunch of stuff.
Need deep pockets if you go with IceBike, met them in lanmannalaugar and they sprung us a couple of beers after we told them the route we’d taken to get there.
I think there is some good, epic biking there but the good stuff is pretty spread out and a company like icebike will take the hassle out of the logistics but at a price. Plus helibiking....

Thanks for the posts guys. I realise that it would be a very expensive trip and that would be one of the reasons its a more long term aim for me for a year or 2 down the line. Heli biking would obviously have to be included as it seems one of the must do things!
