Nah - I got some 2nd hand Shimano hydraulic road brakes and shifters that'll need re-hosed and cabled. I have the option of just replacing the lower section of hose and retaining the upper, or replacing the whole thing. I can't see any particular benefit from retaining the joint (in fact It might just get in the way) but maybe some existing owners might persuade me otherwise?
It's main advantage is manufacturers can assemble the brakes euro style, and us brit mechanics can swap them over without having to unwrap the bar tape. If you foresee having to split the system in the future(diplomatic way of mentioning reliability issues 🙂 ), it makes sense to leave them in, in fact, if you have them then there's very little reason other than aesthetics not to use them.

I don't have them but I like* the idea.
* Not entirely sure how useful they really are but flexibility is good as a general rule in my book - long as nothing detrimental is "added"
