Anyone know a good stem mount for an i phone without spending a fortune !,as all the ones ive seen arent cheap !!,i'd prefer stem mount rather a bar clamped one..
Endomondo do one.. but not cheep either...
I've got the Topeak one (around £18 i think) and use it (only occasionally) on the stem and it's been fine. Only annoyance is that Topeak insist on putting a sprung belt clip on the back of all their products (does anybody put a phone on their belt anymore??) which rattles as soon as you hit anything but the smoothest tarmac. I just wedged a bit of old foam into mine and it made it silent. It's waterproof as well and is easy to use through the clear plastic cover.

I've got one of [url= http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Handlebar-Mount-Waterproof-Case-HTC-Wildfire-/120646603053 ]these[/url] for my HTC wildfire and its surprisingly sturdy, but I need to set about the clamp with a file to make it fit the stem.
Is it wise to strap a £400+ phone to your bars? Fine if you're doing a nice leisurely pootle but I don't think it would survive a crash. Fair enough if it's insured but still a ballache if you break it.
I strapped my iPhone to my stem using the Topeak one and promptly fell off on ice smacking the bike into the concrete. I was broken, the bike was broken, but iPhone was fine. I don't think its any more likely to get broken than any other expensive bits, such as fork stanchions or frame etc.
Agree with the topeak one being a bit rattly. Also you can't make phone calls without removing it from the case or using a bluetooth headset. i think the more expensive ones allow you to still use the dock connector for keeping it charged up via a dynamo hub or external battery as well.

I should say, my Wildfire is a £50 secondhand phone with no sim card or network coverage, I use it purely as a GPS with MMTracker.
My actual phone is securely in my rucsac.
Tigra iPhone mount here. £25ish from Wooly hat Shop on eBay. £40 in Apple Store. Kept phone dry in the rain and didn't fall off the bars. Can be bar or stem mounted and rotated portrait/landscape and QR'd off when you stop. The screen still works through the cover. 🙂
