I sold my inbred and went for an Identiti Aka. Takes upto 140mm fork (maybe more), comes with headset suitable for tapered and standard steerers. Its made of 7005, has sliding dropouts and is awesome.

I would certainly recommend you give it a look.

Dialled Love/Hate. If I hadn't switched to 29s I'd still be riding it. (Buy my medium!)

Surly 1x1. Nothing fancy but would survive the apocalypse and just rides really well.

I loved my Surly 1x1 until it was stolen. The forks that come with the frame give lots of cushioning and the frame is bouncy in all the right ways. Really capable of taking on trails that you wouldn't think a rigid bike could handle. Just fun really and capable of running massive tyres.

Excuse the crap pic. This was a year or so ago and the frame was all but mothballed for the last 6 months. Nearly finished (just brakes needing to be bled and a brake mount) with Salsa Cromotos, Middleburn UNO, Mary bars etc etc. But the frame itself (if you can find a good priced ex-CRC one like mine / afford a new one from Curtis) its brilliant. Not sure if its £700 brilliant (is any hardtail?) but its well worth £200 brilliant! Ticks every superlative dished out when describing top end steel frames... Really is lovely.

Cotic Simple? Nice and niche now the brand new ones have gone 29er. I just bought one of the last 26" brand new ones and its very nice in the flesh (not built up yet unfortunately)

I'd agree with the Curtis comments - I have one of the cheap CRC ones and it's the best steel frame I've ever ridden, just lovely.

Besides the surly, Can anyone recommend one that has v bosses, sliding/horizontal/track dropouts and a medium frame with a head tube less than 112mm?
Basically a 2004 Kona Unit that isn't.

I'd second that. Have done some frankly stupid stuff on mine. Something about it brings out the inner hooligan and I ride it like a stolen BMX.
