I crashed a few weeks back on some rocks in Torridon and didn't check the bike at the time. Presumably happened then.

Its pretty deep, nearly half the width of the stay. i doubt it will last very long.

Hopefully Giant have a generous crash replacement scheme. Fingers crossed.

Give over, that'll last for years. Get it ridden.

I don't know specifically about crash replacement, but Giant after-sales support and care is very, very good indeed.

I bet that would last for years. Seatstay chiefly in compression.

If anything it will help with your heel clearance!

surely a bend in something that is chiefly in compression is bad, mkay?

More of a dent than a bend.

My mate has one of those on his stumpy, was offered crash replacement for £100 something but declined after having it checked.
LBS (specialized dealer) checked it out and didn't think it was a problem and the rear triangle would last for years even with the dent. Only possible problems might arise with re-sale etc.

Ride it you'll be fine, unless you die, in which case....ah who cares you're dead.

Oocha! Nightmare.
I thought when I saw the thread title that you'd bumped the van.

that's tiny!

If it ws on the brake side I'd worry, but given the worst case scenario, what would happen if it snapped?

Why not ask cynic-al if he can fix it (see frankenbike thread)?

I reckon that'll be 'reet.

I've had a bigger dent in my Inbred seat-stay for the last year and it's still fine. Though it is steel rather than Alu I suppose.

Just ride it, break it, break yourself - at least you'll be able to put yourself back together.

A bit of rock rash never hurt anybody. Worry about it if it gets worse.

On second pic the crack on the paint seems to run along the metal,if that is a crack then I would sort it.

Mate had a Stumpy and did worse to his lower chainstay - actual tear in the metal. It never gave way.

However, I have an issue - who the **** has a crash and doesn't care more about bike damage than personal injury?

cracks on the top are more to worry about than the dent tbh.

And yes, damage to strut in compression is more serious than tension.

You have a point there, a few years back i would have been all over the bike checking it. Now i just chuck it in the van and clean and oil the gears and service the shocks occasionally. I think i had an epiphany when i broke vertebrae and the bike only popped a saddle rail!
