I'd keep an eye out in the classifieds. You can often pick up a lightly used set of Avid Elixirs for about £100. Much better than strokers in my experience.

those brakes you've already got should work well enough if bled correctly, are there any leaks you can see, have you ever bled brakes before? not being funny by the way just that bleeding can be tricky if you've no experience.

My guess is a damaged cable allowing fluid to seep between the layers. You'll get no external fluid, but the brake will be spongey, and it's tricky to spot.

The Shimanos are good brakes.

no leakage i can see.its been in the lbs twice but its not going back there again.i actually got a large syringe fae my sis in law(works in hospital)and was gona try bleed it myself as i dont think it could get any worse.i took the resevoir cap of today and held the lever down and i noticed some light bubbles coming out at the corner off the resevoir, aomeone had posted in an earlier post that you can get shot off some excess air by doing this.on the cable point could be poss but would i not see a leak from somepoint?the bikes only year and a half old(genesis core 2.0)
