Have been using an HRM for a while now. Checked my numbers after a race today and saw that my max HR was 226bpm! A bit shocked to see that as it's usually about 185 on the same loop, but while just riding and not racing.
Took part in the race today in Mortimer Forest in Ludlow, Shropshire run alongside a fell running race. 9.5 very muddy miles and 550m of climbing. Enjoyed it and put in some serious calorie deficit work in time for Xmas.
I'm 39, ride for 1.5 hours with moderate effort about 3/4 times per week, and weight 12st.
Duff battery? - seems OK for everything else.
Any other thoughts?
Interferance from electric cables, always hits the 220's happened to me today actually!
Mine sometimes comes up with crazy readings like that - usually some kind of interference cos I'd keel over if my heart rate got that high.
Intermittent contact or electrical interference. Electricity cables are usually the culprit but I've seen it from substations before. There was one on a regular road ride of mine which always caused the HRM to show 232 bpm.
I gave up wearing mine for MTB races because the chest strap usually ended up shaking loose with all the bumps.
If I tumble dry my winter top it builds up loads of static which gives me bpm's of 400+....
you're meant to take it off before you tumble dry it
cheap wireless bike computer did that to me.
I agree with all of the above, but just wanted to add one more idea.
It could be just your HRM is not coded, and you got close to someone with the same, easy to fix, buy a coded HRM?
