Red? Black? Fire roads?
What else should I be worrying about, besides 100miles mostly going up hill?

After 70 miles you'll be knackered, anything narrower than a fire road may become "technical". There isn't much black at Kielder. Red's vary. THe lonesome pine is red because it's exposed but is probably only blue in technical features. The Deadwater is red but some of the features are at the darker end of red compared to some places. I heard there's a fair amount of natural stuff which could be anything.

Let's think the unthinkable and say it's not raining at the start. What lightweight waterproof do you take?

Mine was more of a showerproof really. Just something small and light to stick in a jersey pocket. Those man eating puddles do the job of a monsoon like downpour in less than one second!!

I'm happy to get wet but isn't a waterproof on the list of things they check you have?

I'll be taking a windproof unless it looks dire.

It's not rained for weeks so hardly likely to start now is it? Oh, hang on . . .
