My mate just bought the following today...

It's an Armstrong, with a 3spd Sturmey Archer hub. It's in need of a little TLC but the good news is everything seems to work ok on it.

I can't for the life of me guess just how old it is. Thinking anything from 30 years or so up to maybe 70. Certainly gotta be worth a few quid if restored properly though?

Is possible to get a date from the hub's serial number - I'd guess 50s or 60s. Probably not worth all that much, to be honest...

Prob pre 1955 with that full chain cover, clean the rear hub, it will be the model year after what date is stamped on the hub.
Being a male frame it is worth more. Armstrong Manufacture of course makes it a member of Vickers Armstrong Ltd. so prob worth £2-300.
I have a Raliegh of same vintage, its a 1954 sports, sold from Borthwick cycles, Victoria Street, Edinburgh 🙂

No one can find me any info about this kids bike, except it is possibly a "Trusty" 🙂

I have one of these that I'm restoring. It's 1958 with a 3 speed SA dyno hub.
These go from £25 to about £85
It's a Raleigh Dawn Tourist

Ok next time I see him, I'll clean the hub up and take a butchers

He only paid £30 for it, and other than needing some new brake blocks, the headset tightening, and a new cable (and a lube of the shifter) for the gears it's in fine fettle. It's far from immaculate, probably spent too long outside in its time as it has spots of rust on it, but for £30 it'll do nicely I should think!

Thanks ontor! , explains the P on the light bracket 🙂
Tyres are Michelin "Made in England"

£25 - £85 for 50s bikes? Thats cheap, will not get one around Edinburgh for that price!, must be the cafe culture 😉

EDIT; just found this linky that mentions the Trusty name;

Cleaned the hub up today, it's a 1954 machine, so 58 years old!

Dynamo 3 speed hub still works perfectly too. Needs new brake blocks and a tyre though, but all good.

Mine had sat in the open for decades, the saddle had plants growing out of it.
Took it home, coated it in WD40 and fired her up. Couldn't believe it all worked including the lights. Though the lenses are so yellowed they're not worth having.
I'm going to re rim the wheels for safety.
And possibly convert the seat tube battery system and lamps to run LEDs
