2 seems to be my answer. From being serviced and hardly ridden two months ago to worn to the point of feeling the difference 0 anodizing.
Noticed slight wear and leg flutter at beginning of Glentress Black. By end of Sunday like a floppy noodle. Stripped them today and stanchions are bin worthy.
What and indeed the..

Sounds like something went wrong in the service.

Assuming they're a year plus old, it's safe to assume this wasn't going to happen on the next 2 rides.

I'm with Conan. Skins like a bushing problem if they went sloppy, but not sure what can really go wrong with them

Self service or professionally done?

I suspect if the forks have been sat upright for 2 months and not moved then the foams and seals have dried out in the top of the legs meaning zero lubrication... but it still seems a bit extreme to wear out so quickly. Makes me wonder if they put any oil in during the service?

Stanchion wear by itself doesn't cause your other symptoms so yes, something else wrong which might well be the cause of the wear.

But thing is, it doesn't take 2 rides to wear them, it also takes every other ride you'd ever done.
