You are right back in the past when we were insesitive it was trully wonderful , then along came people who cared and then suddenly we had wars, disease and pestilence.
Eh?
Think wars have been round a bit longer than a lefty newspaper...... 😉
Can this Hora person not be banned..? is no one else tired of him talking sh1te all day ..?
If you believe so, then please feel free to post an explanation then, rahther than just spouting 'you're wrong' at something oyu disagree with.
If you want to compare some hand wringing middle class blokes with enough disposable income to be pondering wether or not to buy a £2000+ bike from a factory that has girly calendars in the workshop, with a woman standing up against Racial Segregation then that's fine.
Don't expect me to think it makes any sense though.
I stand corrected we only cause disease and pestilence of the worlds ills...forgive us we are well meaning
Hora is just Hora he doe snot annoy me.
Its a great video.
I wonder how politically correct life is in Taiwan ?
Hora can't be banned. He's a government funded experiment
Right now, you're having your rising blood pressure monitored. Its part of a secret programme to develop the equivalent of nuclear weapons, to use over the internet, in the forthcoming war with China
binners slowrider sent me a parcel and two weeks later I realised what he'd done....
on the parcel was to: Benny Hill
****! 😆

I didn't. Please try to read, and understand what I posted.

Judging by your comments, i don't.

I have. And I do.
I still don't agree with it though.
Maybe you just need to live with that ?
I have. And I do.
You don't. Clearly.

Big soft git I may be, but I'm a big soft git who can afford an Orange, so why would they want to risk putting me off buying one?
I find it quite offensive that in this time of austerity you choose to gloat about your obvious wealth, is this the mark of convenient and selective liberal wooliness ?
You don't. Clearly.
You were standing up for people who question what they don't feel is right (no matter how trivial)
And comparing them to Rosa Parks.
(That's what you were doing anyway, it may have changed now)
the mark of convenient and selective liberal wooliness
I bet it's merino wolliness too, proper middle class stuff.

Indeed. Now you're getting it. however, you sqid it was a 'pointless comparison', which, as we've learned, it isn't at all. As it's merely comparing someone questioning something they don't feel is right with someone who questioned something they diodn't feel was right. So, a spot on com, parison then. The issue questioned isn't relavent here at all, merely the actions taken.
you may feel it's a 'trivial' matter, but others think differently to you. Aren;'t they allowed to do so? Or are you alone the arbiter of thought?
they'll wear their lawn out doing that.
I'm actually deeply offended by that.
You beast.
The workshop is a grot free zone, find it all a bit sad, grubby and 80's.
This. You can defend it all you want against 'PC gone mad' but this is the reality.

Don't try and pretend you're all modern man. We know you've only come on here to get out of nappy changing 🙂
Mike, I have to applaud the mental dexterity required to link semi-pornographic calenders at the Orange workshop to Rosa Parks. Even by STW standards that is some achievement.
Frankly, I flip from total disinterest to a puzzlement at why people want to adorn their workspaces with pictures of semi-naked people of the opposite sex. Each to their own, but does seem bizarely antiquated. But to the question....

Why is it, the moment anyone questions possibly offensive behaviour, the anti-PC brigade immediately jump to defend said behaviour?
Is it not less of a case of anti-PC and more of a rejection of double standards? They seem to plague modern debates.
Pictures of women = degrading, exploitation. Picture of men = just a bit of harmless fun.
Benny Hill (since he has been bought into it) = a bit of a pervert. Loose Women = lunchtime giggle.
Man gets slap from woman for staring at woman walking past, women free to oggle at Diet Coke adverts.....
And to flip the sexes on its head - picture of breasts = marginally acceptable, picture of penis = outrageously disgusting. Both harmless (sic) body parts after all?!??

And I in turn must question quite why you are failing to actually understand the point I was making. It really is quite clear, and I've explained this using quite simple language. I haven't at any stage linked 'emi-pornographic calenders at the Orange workshop to Rosa Parks'. I'm quite bemused by how you've come to think this.
To reiterate, what i did do, was to liken those prepared to speak out against something to the actions of Ms Parks. Because while the issues are different, the actions are similar.

I think it's more to do with the locus of control though, rather htan the content itself. In a traditionally male environment, women may well feel uncomfortable with male behaviour that they see as degrading women amnd objectifying femininity. Of course, a man working in a 'female' environment may feel equally uncomfortable, although this is less common if we are to llok at statistics of cases relating to sexual descrimination and harassment in the workplace.
I agree there are some double standards. But surely the key is that all workers feel safe, equal and comfortable in their working environment?

I'd say that pics of either sexes' gentialia are more comparable. After all, female topless sunbathing is seen as fairly acceptable on most UK beaches, yet full nudity not so.

I tend to find it works the other way, particularly on a practical basis: men with more than a handful of sexual partners = lucky. Women = slappers.
Men that go out and pull on a saturday night for a one night stand = lucky. Women that do the same = slappers.
Men that look at topless women/pg 3 ladies/pornography = perfectly acceptable. Woman that do the posing = slappers.
Women swooning over men = unfaithful. Men swooning over ladies = just being men.
Women getting older = past it old hags. Men = distinguished.
I could go on. The imagined sexual liberation of women is, quite frankly, disappointing to say the least.
As I said in my original post, there is a good deal of hypocrisy out there with picture of women being nothing more than a bit of slap-n-tickle fun....unless it's their daughter/wife/girlfriend on the picture.
We are still very much a patriarchal society.
sorry mikeconnor, I just don't see what you're getting at there.
😉

This^^
It's all about context but in the 21st century I can't think of a work place whereby semi-nude pictures of women is acceptable.

It's a good point, and interesting that no-one's really commented on it yet. Would anyone who thinks it's acceptable for men to look at such pictures of women also find it acceptable if it were their own wife/girlfirend/mother/daughter/sister doing the posing and other men seeing the pictures? after all, it's just a bit of 'harmless' fun for blokes to leer at women, isn't it?
We are still very much a patriarchal society.
This is a fact some people on here seem to have missed somewhat.

Nah, sorry, stand by my original point. First use of Ms Parks was still a leap IMO. 😉 [Cue flashback to "Brownie Scene" in Notting Hill]
Well, the women are obviously quite happy to exploit their assets for their 'job'.
So, really, who is exploiting whom?
I think the thing that annoys the most is adverts that use girls. 'glamour' is just that, it's tits and fannys, but adverts with girls is just a bit scummy
Having said that, it does women no favours and I think there are still men out there how expect girls to behave a certain way, or dress a certain way because of the pictures they see.
Not shocked or disgusted by it, just slightly bored and disappointed really
There is a lot of pictures up & I think it makes a difference. Its in poor taste at the very least. If I was the Orange honcho I would have got them taken down for the photoshoot

The main difference there (possibly?) is that He/She runs a successful Bike factory, and you (possibly?) don't.
So only one of you really knows (or cares) if those pictures will make a measurable difference to the business.
So........back on point.
Can anyone HONESTLY say they wouldn't buy an Orange bike/frameset because they saw some calendars they didn't like in a workshop manned by men they don't know?
🙂

I miss being able to tag.

Anyone who claims to fit into that category is talking pish to try and prove a point.

I doubt it will make any measurable difference, but still, it looks a bit 'sad, grubby and 80s' - not the image any company is looking to portray I'd imagine.
not the image any company is looking to portray I'd imagine.
Mmmm, I'd imagine they saw the film before it was released.
Are we allowed put the cyclepassion calendar up in a workshop then? or THE victoria pendleton poster??
Is it ok to have a sexy lady in some clothes calendar or is that 80's too?
If I worked with any of you I'd be far more offended by the amount of time you manage to spend on here arguing over stuff like this, rather than doing your day job..... which you're obviously getting well paid to do to be considering buying overly priced Orange bikes.
And as for the Rosa Parks comment.....oh deary me....

Or maybe it portrays them as a company of real, actual Northern men making stuff by hand in a factory in England where they have calendars of girls with their cans out, rather than some clinical, faceless far Eastern conglomerate staffed by 12 year olds? Just a thought........

Is that the choice?
All ths over a few pages of Nut's mag that where probably leftup/putup for a laugh? andyrm has it locked down.
My workshop is sooo missing some erm arty? Pendleton images.

A BRITISH CYCLIST!!!!!
You horrible patriotic jingoistic bastard!
Seriously though, there are obviously so many emasculated office workers in here it makes me want to cry.
Well, it would do if I spent my entire day pushing a pencil around a desk and having to be all "modern" and have "feelings" so I don't upset the skirt wearers.
Ps. tpbiker: It's my day off. 😉
