Hi there, I'm rookie to the forum but I've been riding for years!!
Maybe by now I should know better but I've been saving for a while and now I need some rig advice please...
...Been riding a 150-170mm travel bike for a few years so reckon I've got the lumpy stuff covered but want something a bit speedier for XC. LBS has offered me an '09 Sworks Epic for £3K inc warranties (which I thought was fairly reasonable considering RRP!!). I tested it the other day and its proper quick but had anyone got one/tried one? Like it/hate it?
Or should I be looking at something else, £3K buys quite a lot still I think!!
Any thought very muich appreciated...

I know a lot of people have had problems with the rear shocks. Have a search on STW. All replaced under that warranty!!

Personally, I've got a Giant anthem. Very highly reccomended and worth a test ride.

Cant doubt the Epic's credentials, but as you got a full suspension bike already maybe a hardtail would give you what your looking for with less bits n bobs to worry about.. 3k is proper money and will get loads of bike in whatever flavour you want, more test rides on other bikes I rekon.

I have one, rear shock and front fork is still good, as is the front wheel. I only it for XC and marathon racing, I have another bike to train on. I find it very good at what it is designed to do.

£3k is unbelieveable price, I thought all the s-works epics where sold out.

Have a look at the S-Works FSR Stumpjumper, too. Now available for around the same cash but less balls out racey. Still light and fast and sleek, though.

That's a crazy price, I'd be wondering why they're desperate to get rid of it if I were you!

I love mine, there were reliability problems with forks/shocks, but they do seem to have sorted them, and they're very quick at sorting things out when they do go wrong.

If it's genuine I'd tear their arm off.

Thanks for replies guys
The owner of LBS bought it for himself but didn't really use it so he's up for selling it, its only been on a couple of rides. They are a big Specialized dealer so he has already returned the shocks to be corrected even though he didn't notice any problem with them. They are so closely connected to Specialized he can garantee the warranties, it seems like a bit of a no brainer to me!!
Thanks again for your help....
