The cleats are far too worn! Got one bolt left on a shoe. It's worn quite flat and now rounded out, I'm gonna have to use powertools.
What do you do?? do I just attack it it with a big drill bit and get the remaining bit out with pliers? any advice? I tend to mess these things up!
I would try to put a strait slot in it first with a hacksaw then try to unscrew it with a screwdriver. There wont be much shaft left if you have to drill it
yeah I know! **** thing. ta.
Think I can hacksaw through the whole cleat to make a slot if I stick the shoe in a vice. good thinkin hug, cheers.

Just drill the bastard out. Once you've got the head off, you can rmove the cleat, and then just use pliers (not Chaka Deamus) to unscrew the remaining bit.
Hacksaw ffs... ๐
did you not read my op. there looks like there'd be nowt left to grab after u drill it, that's why I was asking.
I refer to my OP " I tend to mess these things up! "
hammer time. (not MC)
Before you do anything else get a hammer and hit the cleat and bolt a good few times, not only will it loosen any rust it'll make you feel much better too!!
Use a nice, sharp 6mm drill, slow speed lots of pressure, stop drilling as soon as the screw head starts turning. There should be about 1mm of thread to grip, a good pair of Mole grips work best.
You'll probably be able to remove the remaining thread with your fingers after drilling off the bolt head. The tension is between the bolt head and the cleat not in the thread.
As above, did same last week. 6mm bit slowly, once head off cleat drops off and remove thread by hand. Even I didn't manage to bodge it :-).
Drill the head off the bolt, if the remaining bit won't come out, you get new cleat plates with Shimano cleats anyway, so it's not the end of the world, or someone on here will most likely have a pair in their spares box, I might even have some somewhere!
I use a G clamp - to hold the cleat in place whilst drilling (as the first time I drilled one out the inner plate spun round and tore the shoe lining - ho hum)
an angle grinder is your friend. Bolt head off in a couple of seconds then the trst just unscrews by hand.
Another way is to saw/tear the cleat off leaving the bolts in place and sitting proud, then remove bolts with Molgrips.
Hammer & a centre punch. Centre punch the flat bit & tap it round with the hammer.
I used a grinder once and generated so much heat that that the bottom of the sole melted. Mind you that was on some SH100's and i was an 18 yr old idiot.
I am now a 35 yr old idiot.
I would try hammering in a slightly larger torx bit in first to try and screw it out. A car towbar makes a good anvil because you can tuck it in right on the plate. ๐
Is there enough hole left to bang a Torq bit in?
MY list would include: 1) Smack with hammer & punch (or driver) to loosen any rust , 2) Hammer a Torx bit into the head to try and undo it, 3) put a slot in it & try to use a screw driver to undo it, 4) then try the drill...
I just drilled the head of mine, took the cleat plate out of the shoe, placed the remaining screw head in a vice and turned the cleat plate with an adjustable to unscrew. Then put the plate back in the shoe and resealed with gaffer tape.
time somebody redesigned cleat attachment if you ask me
Ya-HA-HAAAaaa! I just drilled out its bolty arse. Feel my drill powa you little bolty ****!
Kev 1. Bolt 0.
Cheers guys ๐
