Ok I've got the proper drifts and have used both cheap and branded bearings so why once I've installed the bearings can a fella definate notch when they're rotating???

Make sure when you'r epressing the bearings in they are in square and also not to put much pressure in the inner race.
Got the right spacers in the right places etc?
sometimes new bearings could do with a little more grease adding in there. Gently prise off one of the rubber dust covers on the bearing (stanly knife blade or similar work nicely), taking care not to bend them, then adding more decent gease will help.

Just fitted a new pair of bearings today. The inner one has a slight notch but the outer is smooth.Initially the inner one went in slightly off square so maybe that was the problem.

Grease added before install, drifted in square, just wondering if the faces on my Hope drifts have a high spot in the middle, Think I'll ask my mate to check them on lathe and perhaps remove a bit of material to ensure they're only contacting the outer race
