As above really. I’ve seen it said elsewhere that they’ve got stiff bearings out of the box - anyone able to confirm/refute?

I don't know tbh - Time ATACs here nearing EoL as the forged bars are wearing down on, Hopes were on the shortlist but I've hears they're stiff enough that you get one-sided wear which would put me off.

Not on the many sets I've seen. Sounds like a duff set or duff batch.

The idea could be that the pedals remain in the same position all the time so you end up wearing out one side of the pedals, but that would need really stiff bearings and to consistently clip in and out in the same place.
