Hope Union GC problems.

Has anyone had any problems clipping in and out of the Hope pedals?  I’ve set them up with the skid plates and used the cleat shim guide, but they still seem to be much more difficult to clip in with compared to SPDs even though most reviews say they should be very similar.

Any help or advice would be great.

not hopes but nukeproof...

my solution was doing them up as tight as possible, leave them overnight then back off.. clipping and unclipping issue resolved for me

Cheers, I’ve managed to get them working now, but I might try doing them up too tight overnight. I assume that is meant to stretch the spring or something?

I have 2 pairs, I use the plates instead of the pins. I never used the guide i just put my shoe on top and it took a couple of attempts for the depth to work.

What shoes do you use, I am in hellcats?

Using 2fo's and pins in mine, they are a lot more of a positive engagement than the trail versions, agree that they are slightly trickier to get into. With the extra platform, I find you need to keep your foot flatter.

I use them, pins not plates. with Crank Brother Mallet shoes.

They are difficult to get set up initially. Finding the balance between too little and too much pin contact takes me a while. Once sorted I've had no issues clipping in or out.

Mine are nearly 2 years old and are still in almost perfect condition. I took them apart a month ago and there was a tiny bit of dirt inside them. For reference a set of Crank Brother Mallet pedals would be almost at binning point after 2 years.

Cheers. She uses Shimano AM45s.

She has always used either Shimano DX or XT pedals (hated her first gen Mallets).
Currently I’ve got them working with the thin Shimano and no pins or plates, once she gets used to them I’ll put the plates back on as they’ll probably help protect them from damage.

They were working ok when I was using my old Greg Minnaar shoes last night. But she’s a much fussier rider than me, very picky about certain things, and other, not so much

Looks like I spoke too soon about the condition and possible longevity of the Hope Union GC pedals.

One of the springs snapped this weekend ☹️. Looks like the something has rubbed the spring, I'm guessing the cleat, and created a stress riser. (The almond shape on the end of the spring looks like the area of rub)

2 1/2 years old so no warranty.

Hope are usually pretty good for spares availability but in this case they may have to go back to Hope

CLIP MECHANISM PARTS ARE NOT USER SERVICEABLE SO ARE NOT AVAILABLE SEPARATELY. ALL PARTS ARE FACTORY SERVICEABLE IF RETURNED TO OUR SERVICE DEPARTMENT.

I'll send Hope a message and see what they say. After having a closer look, it looks like the spring has rubbed on a plate, gradually started to crack and the finally gone.

I had a spring break on a pair of hope pedals. Convinced them to send me a replacement spring to fit myself and instantly regretted it after spending nearly an hour to faff on with it. Unless you can’t bear to be without the pedal for a day or so, I’d send them back to Hope for them to replace the spring as they have jigs to hold everything in place

Cool, I'll get in contact with them and see if they'll sort them.

I've ordered a replacement set that arrive tomorrow so the old ones will be kept as spares, if they fix them.

I dug out a set of Crank Brothers Mallet Enduros to get out on the bike today. I will categorically NOT be returning to Crank Brothers pedals, the Hopes are so much better.
