Considering a new UST wheelset for a new year build which I hope will be a Turner DW Flux.

I have a set of XTR centre lock rotors & a set of XT 6 bolt rotors.
I want to run UST tyres, Nobby Nic's, which I have, so which wheels should I buy??

Price for both pairs is the same, as near as dam it, but the Crosstrail is about 150g's heavier but I can buy in centre lock to suit the XTR rotors.

Which should I buy or what alternative??

Pro2s on Stans, and sell both sets of rotors to fund some Hope floating ones!

I love Stan's rims, (flows for me) and you can't beat Hopes backup. I've heard less than great things about the backup on Mavic wheels. never ridden Mavic but I know what my choice would be!

Just got some 355's off Wheelpro last week and fitted Nobby Nics.

Seem a grat set of wheels, only time will tell how strong they are, but Roger at wheelpro say's i wont break em, and he is apparently a wheel Building God.

The good thing about the hope stuff is it's easy to get spares and the warranty dept is supposed to be top drawer.

Tyres went on no problem at all.

Hope hubs: easy to service and to get spares
DT Spokes: easy to get spares
The Mavic idea is nice, but you are tied into a "system" and there seems to be little benefit.

btw - I'm running ordinary (non-UST) NNs on Pro2/355 wheels using a Joes strip/sealant kit. Apart from having to stick a wee bit extra air in the rear one on a weekly basis they've been great.

Go for the Hopes, easy to convert between hub sizes, just did the QR to 20mm conversion, took about 5 mins. I have used the 355s in the lakes and dalbeattie with no problems.

Running hope floatys instead of XTR centrelock will save you about another 100g anyway.
Hopes are easier to maintain over Mavics and you can always get spare spokes in a jiffy.
