There is a bit of play at the rim on my Pro 2 rear hub. I've serviced it and the freehub and bearings seem OK although a little rough on the non-drive side. I can't feel any play at the axle with the wheel out of the dropout. Before I have all the bearings replaced is this normal or has anyone noticed the same problem?

My Hope Bulbs do something similar. Despite being sent back to the LBS and Hope the rear wheel develops play after just a few weeks.

I don't really notice it when riding however and after five years I haven't died yet.

Mine haven't got any play a year after they first went on the bike.
Gets jet washed etc. so no, shouldn't happen.

Mine had play from the box, bearings replaced and have lasted 2 winters since.

Thanks everyone. The bearings are 2 years old and the play is not so bad as to affect the handling at present so I'll probably replace them in the Spring - unless it gets worse.

Had the same problem, hub also felt sticky so changed the 3 hub bearings but not the 2 wheel bearings as they seemed okay. Still had a couple of mm play at the rim. Have now changed the wheel bearings and the play has gone away, indicating that it was the wheel bearings. I guess a very small amount of play at the hub is magnified at the radius of the rim.
