So Hope pro 2 hubs, feeling a bit draggy/squeaky after the winter commute.
never serviced hubs before, but built 2 bikes.
Is a hub service a job for the LBS or better to try DIY? Cant have the bike out of action as its my commuter so was hoping to drop off friday pm and pick up saturday pm. may take me longer?
When you've done one, I can manage 30 mins for a complete bearing swop and rebuild. I use studding and washers to press the bearings in , rather than a socket and hammer treatment.
So there bearings are less than a year old, likely they will need replaced or can i just give them a clean and re-grease?
It's a doddle, easier if you have the correct bits and pieces but there are help videos made by the guys at Hope to give you an idea of what is involved. Helpful stuff from Hope
For the cost it's probably best to get replacement stainless steel cartridge bearings either from a bearing specialist or UK bike store do them.
Have a look here
I do my own and they are straight forward.
You can use sockets or washers as Thrusty suggests but I bought the tools which made it easier
EDIT Beaten to it, must type faster ๐
Rather than pay for the labour, use the cash to buy the Hope tools and their bearings (from your LBS?) then just follow the vids.
Yes you can do it with sockets etc, but you can also (easily) screw it up.
