I removed my Head Doctor from my old fork and in doing so I split the black rubber ring that fits around the middle of the main body.
Is it still safe to use? It appears to be just as snug as before.
I await the "no you will die" response lol
Cheers
Couldn't for the life of me ever get my Head Doctor to fit with the rubber bit on my Pikes so I removed it. Still alive over a year later ๐
Same happened with mine, pinched it when putting it in the steerer and split it, tightened it up without and has been working fine since (about 2 years). Haven't thought about it till your post, now I'm worried I'll die or the thing will now be permanently stuck in the forks, ruining them for ever ๐
I think its just there to hold it together while you install it.
You'll be fine as long as its tightened up right.
That's good then because I've stuck it in now.
Seem to remember my old one splitting on the way in and me not dying.
Cheers for the advice guys.
It's only there to create some friction to stop the thing dropping down the bottom of the steerer tube before it's tightened.
Once the big 10mm hex part is done up, it can't move anyway, so if you've got that far, it doesn't matter if it's missing.
remember the trick of using a steel bolt to tension everything up, then put the alu bolt in to fix. snapped a few to many.
Anyone starting from the beginning for the first time should be putting a little bit of grease on before inserting it. Mind, Hope usually do this for you...
It is only there to help with installation as it expands when you tighten up.
That's what I read anyway.
This happened to me a few weeks ago.
I emailed Hope asking where I could buy one and if I really needed it. They said it was not really necessary, but sent one out next day delivery free of charge anyway.
All good!
