My wife's bike is suffering from a little headset movement so I decided to tighten it up. The hope headset didn't want to get any less loose with the stem cap adjustment. We have enough space over the top of the fork steer but the head doctor below it won't move.
It's lower bolt is now free inside the steer tube and won't grip the upper part of the double wedge thingy. And the outer sleeve won't shift to get it all out of the steer. Go on if you know just what the heck I'm doing wrong let me know as it's like one of those puzzles you get at Christmas from people that don't like you.
why do you want to move the hed-doctor ?
Sounds like it may be seized on; I guess a firmish tap from above might get it mobile but could be hard to lift out if you cant pull it up using the topcap bolt - are you saying that the lower nut has fallen out or just that it's now loosened off ?
Is your steerer open at the bottom so you can push the thing out (from below) once it's loose ?
The lower bolt is free as the top bolt and it's wedge came out while trying yo remove all of it. Star nut prevents access from below. Outer sleeve feels stuck I mugshot have to get a bearing puller into it to remove it. Then go back to THE SFN.
