Thinking about pulling the trigger on a set(been offered a good deal by LBS), just wondering if anybody has/used a pair & what their experiences are/were?
Thanks
had the 29 on my old enduro and still have the 650b on my hardtail. They are heavy but rock solid.
Running them on a SS; no problems.
running them on my hardtail with hope hubs not really had any problems with them. Although if I was getting another set of rims I would get ex511s from dr swiss, got a 27.5 set on my big bike and they are amazing.
They are very heavy for what they are. Personally I would stick to dt
Have the Fortus 30 on a ht. Have about 4000km hard riding and just got a wobble on the rear. Heavy though.
Unless you're a top level competitive racer the small weight differences between hope and other rims is not significant.
If the OP is referring to complete wheels, it would be helpful to know make/model of other components being used as there are weight differences between different spokes, nipples, rims and tyres.
I'm glad I mainly E Bike now so don't have to worry about weight (Unless I'm lifting it)
I’m not worried about the weight of the weight, I would lose more having a PRP!!!!😳.
I prefer strength over weight💪🏻
Proper Righteous Poo?
Unfortunately my experience hasn't been great. I had a set of Fortus 35s (27.5) laced to pro 4 hubs, came as part of a new build in Jan. Almost immediately the rear picked up a pretty noticeable dint (which admittedly could have been bad luck). Thereafter, the rear went progressively out of true. Had it retrued at LBS around June, but then it went completely in August after a moderately rocky Lakes descent. By then I'd lost confidence and replaced with a DT Swiss EX511.
The front is now also showing signs of a wobble.
I do ride my bike hard and usually on rocky/techy descents, but definitely nothing beyond what the wheels are marketed for.
I should add that I've got no axe to grind with Hope, quite the opposite actually - I'll usually go out of my way to buy their stuff as I'm a big fan of the company and the products. Unfortunately though, based on my experience I wouldn't recommend the Fortus 35s.
Heavy doesn’t mean strong.
I had the 30s and you can't really beat the value for money considering the hubs alone are £220 Bikewheelsdirect do them for £354 a set

Pre-Ride 💩 🤪
New fortus 30’s here on pro 4, look great stealth decals, not the lightest but bomb proof so far.Came on a full build shouldv’e been hunt trailwides.happy punter
Had a set of 27.5 Hope Fortus 30's (downhill version) on my e-mtb
Were faultless in the 6 months i had them and im not light on wheels
Replaced with a set of DT Swiss EX1501 29er wheels that came on a bike i bought to strip the good parts off as i wanted to try 29er's
If i ever need to replace the DT Swiss EX1501's ill be getting a set of 29er Fortus 30's
The 30s have a much stronger cross section than the 35s - I put a rear on my sons bike, he's hard on back wheels and in three months of tweed valley riding (almost daily) its still true and un dinted I believe. With a Maxxis assegai, an insert and half a pint of gloop in it it weighed more than the rest of the bike, but doesnt slow him much and the trade off is well worth it.
30s are a full on downhill rim and stupidly heavy. 35s are wide, not as heavy, but not very strong.
I'd have just about any other rim ahead of the Fortus ones
Yep the 30s have the bracing in them which adds weight, I chose them knowing that I'd need the strength for all the rock smashing. I've had heaps of winces that didn't damage them.
As others have said the 30s are bomb proof but heavy as hell. imagine loosing the equivalent of a large can of beans per wheel when swapping to 481s
Just bought a pair for some bashing around the Lakes hope they are tough weight does not matter!
Waiting for the frame to arrive 🙁
