MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
Hi
Hopefully im doing something obviously wrong but...
Trying to fit a new 73mm Hope threaded bottom bracket to my Orange today.
The Sram GXP its replacing came out fine, non-drive side Hope one went in easily. Drive side is really stiff from first few turns. So stiff that ive bottled it and put the old one back in (went back in no problems).
Any ideas what i'm doing wrong? I know its a handed thread drive side. The threads are all clean on the Hope BB albeit not as well finished as id have thought. Frame threads are all clean and no apparent problems (or the old one wouldnt have gone back in??)
Any ideas or is this a trip to LBS? No get a scaffold pole suggestions please!
Did it lead a n okay and become stiff? First two thoughts are, it went in slightly on the piss, or the threads are ever so slightly oversized.
Lead in okay for about a full turn and then got really stiff very quickly
Didn't want to force it so took it out
Tried it several times, lots of grease but no joy. The old one threaded back in fine
LBS time?
Have you tried putting the drive side in first then the non drive side? Sounds like the two cups might be slightly misaligned
Good point Tony. Failing that, you need either a different bottom bracket or a different frame to be able to prove where the problem is.
Many thanks for advice so far. Yep tried drive side first too
I dont want to risk damaging frame or the bb. BB was a gift so may be worth contacting Hope direct? Looks otherwise like a trip to LBS?
Yeah, have you got another frame knocking about that you can try the new bb in?
I got a new Orange Clockwork 29er frame last year and the non drive side thread in the frame wasn't good.
Borrowed a bb thread chasing tool to clear it.
Good shout on the mid tube though, try fitting it without the mid tube?
Lots of possibilities, as suggested you really want another frame and/or another BB to cross check.
