I seem to recall that the official line from Honda was that all the bikes were going to be taken back to the factory and crushed. Maybe the one in that auction was a mock-up made of Bacofoil, a bit like the awesome "i-hustle" macbook:

It's been and gone news in Germany, it was Minars i believe the one that was stolen. A bunch of people asked the guy questions and he got himself in a twist contradicting answers etc. I believe he ended and ran!

not our bike…it’s an HRC bike from 2003, stolen from Frankfurt Motorshow, police are on it. Please inform your forum readers and thank them for their vigilance….one day we’ll catch the guys that took the 2 Willingen bikes and it will be thanks to the on-line community. Cheers. Martin Whiteley

What I said. The gearbox was dropped out of the frame when it was stolen, ie, there was no gearbox in the frame when it was stolen.

Ah, thank you and goodnight...

@Davey I understood that the second time I read it. i.e. The mechanics took the gearbox out, then the bike was stolen 🙂

[doofus]
...hahaha, I was honestly thinking that in the hurry to pinch it, the gearbox actually fell out of the frame. And wondering how on earth they won all those races with such an unrealiable way of fixing it in the bike. I am such a spanner sometimes! [/doofus]

but really, how on earth would you imagine a) sorting out a new gearbox to put in yourself. and b) selling the last rn01 in existence on ebay and not attracting some sort of suspicion.

Muppet.
