Every year I suffer with freezing cold hands (and feet) due to bad circulation. I have heard good things about bar mitts and did a bit of a search on t'internet. I first found a thread off here from last year that I must have missed at the time: http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/bar-mitts-pogies-how-about-these
and then found this one on a US site: http://forums.mtbr.com/fat-bikes/diy-pogies-563134.html
It's given me a bit of food for thought. I reckon I could knock something up that would do the job. Anyway I thought I'd stick it on here for any fellow sufferers of cowd digits.
Just me then?
Yup,just you 😉
There is enough faffing and danger in my life without adding bar mitts. 😀
Well I think they certainly work...they're used on the Iditarod for a start. Possibly overkill for over here but I suppose it depends how bad your circulation is 🙂
I thought this was going to be something about a Jewish coming of age...
hi got a pair made by a guy in nottingham in the end who makes them for rowing, very pleased with them. i think he was going to start producing them, the rowing ones were about £20. I use them for commuting and riding last year int eh sub zero temps, very effective and very happy with them.
will see if ican dig out the info
I think I would loose some skin if I used them 😯
these might be a better solution - heated grips?

have a look at mx or enduro motorbike handlebar guards, as well as motorbike bar mitts (*the advantage of the guards is they provid structure) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HG09-VENOM-REINFORCED-HAND-GUARDS-MOTO-X-ENDURO-MX-Gree-/370246151317?pt=UK_CartsParts_Vehicles_ATVQuad_Trike_Parts_Accessories_SM&hash=item563463ec95
two types
- as above, two fix points, connect to bar and loop round into handlebar end
- single fix point, onto bar
they come in various shapes and sizes, and if you don't mind looking like a twonk some of my mates did home made ones out of milk 6 pinters or other containers, cheap and waterproof, if somewhat untrendy
Just spend £40 and get the genuine Bar Mitts 🙂

Not over the top last year once tempertures were below -5C, these neoprene ones are not as big and bulky as most Alaskan makes for there very cold climate, so not too warm to use here, i use them on wet days on the beach in winter when there is a raw wind chill, there ace!, also tested at -19 with just thin wool gloves, again toasty,
Buy them in the UK here http://ajbikeequipment.com/page2.htm
Try poundland or similar for the ice scraper with waterproof lined glove attached, a wee bit of scalpal and needle work required, but easy enough.
You'll look like a tit, but you'll be a warm handed tit!.
Yeah, somebody had done that. I was looking at the one in my car before. They're a bit small.
Boil the kettle, remove bar end plug, fill up handlebars with hot water, refit bar end plug.Tosty hands for at least 1/2 hour, job done.
Not strictly bar mitts but toasty hands all the same
