...and ones that 'work'? Do the downtube mudguards keep the mud out of your eyes?
Or should I just cough up close to a tenner for plastic?

Milk bottles work a treat.
However it does look like a milk bottle zip tied to your forks.

MBR rather cheekily printed what was basically a template for a well known, lightweight, flexible front mudguard in the issue before last. Use it to cut one out of a 2litre plastic milk bottle and zip tie if you like the Clampett look - or stump up for the real McCoy to look proper!
