Any ideas how to make one? I've got one on order (£1 ebay, not £7 Park Tools) but could do with sorting out some fettling today

thanks

Halfords sell 4-packs of metal dust caps with a core tool built-in.

I used to keep one on the rear tube when I used Schrader valved inners for each bike so it was always with me.

actually, a dining fork might do it if you're lucky with spacing

You can usually many with some tweezers or maybe try some small forceps. Yo might need to file or grind a little off of either.

4 inch nail, cut off point and cut slot with hacksaw. Been using it for years.

Dust caps with the slot in them for just that purpose> Metal one are best. Every valve I have has one. Many m/c tubes come with them and I get them from a local m/c shop.
To make them more handy fit them on a bolt. Cross thread them on and they never move. Or cut the complet valve stem out of a tbe and jam them hard onto that.
