Adding a lap each year would be a good aim for me, going for a full 4 laps for HTN4. Admittedly I could have done another this year, but it had started snowing and I live in the hills in the Peaks so I lurked in the trees at the end.

Entered! Perhaps i'll do it on an appropriate bike rather than a 5inch full suss with 2.4 tyres.

Any chance of making the cyclocross mincers step aside while they mince down the first descent? šŸ˜‰

I'm in - would also like to add another lap this year. Got overtaken by a bloke out for a jog last year (several times...) 😳

Any chance of making the mtb trail warriors step aside while they crawl up every ascent? šŸ˜‰

I remember him passing me too and he was trying to chat with me, but due to me blowing out my arse I couldn't start a conversation.

I've entered - what age for the youngest race? I know a lad who is about 5 or 6, too young?

Can anyone give a quick synopsis of what the race is like? Is it do as many 3.5 mile laps as you can in 2 hours? And is it as hard and awful as some of you are making out? What's the terrain like, I only have a full susser and don't want to be 'over biked'

Can anyone give a quick synopsis of what the race is like?

Yes.

Is it do as many 3.5 mile laps as you can in 2 hours?

Yes.

And is it as hard and awful as some of you are making out?

It is as hard and awful as you want to make it. It depends on whether you want to turn yourself inside out and try for 6 laps and go round in the bunch and do 3 or 4. With 300 riders on the course you are never going to riding alone for any period of time.

What's the terrain like, I only have a full susser and don't want to be 'over biked'

The lap consists of

Start

Field of Despair - Nasty
MTFU Hill - Nasty
Red grade trail centre berms - Not nasty
The Chin - Short techinical DH
The climb - A climb
Prepataion H - Short techinical DH
Blue grade trail centre stuff with a couple of berms - Easy
The water splash - A water splash
Viaduct Climb - A climb up and over a Victorian railway viaduct
The B@stard - Near vertical muddy carry

Finish

Repeat

A full susser will be fine. Better on some bits, worse on others. The winner will be on a CX because he will have raced all season and will take it seriously.

Then you have to factor in the brass band, the samba band, the excellent catering. the pi55 taking, the enthusiatic marshals and the banter. It will be cold. You will probably get covered in mud, or snow. You will enjoy it.

If it was that bad it wouldn't sell out. If it was too easy it wouldn't sell out either. The plan is to host a race where the competitors feel like they have taken part in something a bit different to their usual Saturday morning ride no matter whether they finish top 10 or bottom 10.

HTH

British Cycling's website appears to be shagged at the moment, so nobody can enter.
I'm sure it'll be back soon.

Louis, sounds like it's the same as always, but a bit different.

Based on the above, it would seem to be:

That horrible field, then the push up the steep little hill at the end.
Then down to the right on the superb new trails, left down that excellent steep drop which loads of people slide down on their bum.
Then back up through the white gate, the really good downhill bit at the top on the left, round the flat bits where the crossers cheat and miss out the rocky sections šŸ™‚ , through the raging rapids, then climb back up to the start via the comedy slidy, pushy bit near the carpark.

Just a guess based on Harry's description above, mind.

Bit like a greatest hits compilation of the last few with a few new bits.

Sounds great.

You in?

I'm in Agent Spanner & this time I am coming to get you & they will not put DNF against my name! Looking forward to some rehearsals. Good incentive to get fit.

I was hoping that they would use both sides of the new trails. I'll text you tomorrow.

It is a figure of 8 so it can't work.

It would make it too easy.

There is road in the middle of it and the the rest of the park is still open.

Whats happening with the kids race beforehand Harry?

I've got 2 enthusiastic entrants chomping at the bit. Seriously - they're talking about training programmes, and everything. Which has raised suspicions in my mind as to whether they're actually mine after all. I might pop on Jeremy Kyle for the old DNA test, just to be sure

The file treads worked really well last year up to the point it started snowing-got a bit tricky after that.
Looking forward to it šŸ™‚

it'll be happening during the main event, most probably. So you'll need to bring another person to look after them while you're still in the race.

preferably with a gpx file)

absolutely, positively no can do. I know it's 'only' Philips Park but a lot of it is footpath that we've got kind permission to use on the day. Handing out gpx files would be irresponsible and powerful forces will become angry with us.

@RustySpanner and @hebdenbiker - I would have prefered to have gone down 'The Chin' on my arse, rather than my.. chin šŸ˜€
