On the way home from work, I saw the awful site of a rider down. He looked pretty badly hurt. Thankfully there were a few people around with someone on the phone to what I guess was 999. What happened next was appalling. The driver of the vehicle was trying their hardest to drive off with the bike still under the car. After much screeching and revving they managed to release the bike and then sped off. I am still really shocked by this.
Having reported what I saw to the police they have since called back and said that the driver was elderly and has possibly had a blackout or seizure causing her to lose control of the vehicle. Which obviously explains the accident. But I am struggling understand the driving off. A witness was, shouting at the car to stop, plus the loud scraping noise of the bike under the car whilst trying to drive off. Or there be some understanding for why she drive off, confusion, shock....?
Anyway the main thing is the rider should be ok. He was conscious and talking to the ambulance as I continued on. My way home. If anyone who lives in the Todmorden area and knows who he is please pass my best wishes on.
nasty... I suppose could just be panic if suffering black out of some kind. But still, maybe driving not the best idea...
It's a sad fact that it happens quite a lot, people seem to panic or maybe they think they can get away with it. The Police almost always catch them though and they don't take it likely.
Best wishes to the cyclist.
my brother in law, was hit by a drunk driver, who tried to do a runner, with BiLs leg wrapped round the front wheel.
Only stopped because he hit a lamppost.
The police screwed up the subsequent investigation and driver went free.
He was caught subsequently drink driving and received a ban.
If this sort of thing was a one off it wouldn't be so bad, but it isn't.
I don't have much time for the police or drivers as a result.
