I'mre trying to repalce the chainrings on my xtr cranks, but the inner ring bolts re threaded/worn so that i'm unable to use a star or allen key to rotate them.

Anyone have any ideas on how to remove the bolts (and through them away), the slot for the allen ky is basically round now. i presume the bolt has seized to the crank : (

Proberly best to drill and use an easy out or you can get someone to weld a nut on top of it but with cranks being ally proberly not the safest way!

get a really sharp small chisel
and tap the edge of the screw/bolt
.......anticlockwise!! ๐Ÿ™‚
..and it may help if you warm up the crank arm

Take the cranks off the bike and use a vice to press a slightly larger torx bit into the bolt head, use a bit of wood on the other side to stop it marking the crank, once it's pressed in, wind it out
Worked for me on mine

al,

XTR granny bolts are aluminium, so the torx bit should work well.
Otherwise, drill the heads off, remove the chainring and use a Mole Grip to remove the stub, or slot it and a screwdriver.

Use copper grease with the new ring!

torx hammered in is always a good try for allen heads rounded...
