Just got a 2x9 setup fitted but when pedalling its tending to change gear on its own. Is this something I can easily adjust myself or do I need an lbs?

Sheldon Brown or you tube are worth a look at , I've managed to index gears and I'm a proper mechanical numpty .

too much tension in your cable
is it SRAM of Shitmano?

SRAM chain, shifters, and rear mech with shimano front mech and cassette

ok you cable tension is probably off
you can adjust the cable tension at the shifter, slacken it off a bit at a time until it indexes without jumping
