Having an absolute nightmare trying to get some roadwheels from Ribble cycles.
Ordered a roadbike, which arrived having not been set up with a buckled rear wheel. Sent wheels back and have heard nothing since. That was three weeks ago. Aparrently the director is supposed to be dealing with this but he hasnt got in touch.
Anyone else had issues with them, or is it just me?
email or phone ?
Strange as 2 people I know have only said great things about them mail order for the winter trainer and a ribble carbon (which I was tempted to get soon).
Let us know how you get on with the aftersales.
If Ribble scew you up I'm not buying anything from them!
Well simon, i have emailed and phoned. The Director doesnt deal with customers directly so he writes you a letter. Still waiting for it, two weeks later.
The bike Zaskar is great value for money, but i havnet ridden it yet and never seem to get anywhere with trying to sort out wheels. Not sure i'll be recommending them to anyone!
I don't understand why one of their directors would be getting involved, surely it wouldn't need to be escalated to that level for a simple wheel true (or replace) are you sure there is not a little more to the story?
Best of luck mate. From experience over many years living near to Preston, Ribble have never had a good name for their customer service. When they had the shop it was the last port of call, and even then you only went in if you knew exactly what you were after. Advice? Forget it. Unless you rode with the guys behind the counter they didn't want to know you.
Of course they have now shut the shop for "refurbishment". It's been shut for most of the year, and word is that they are only doing mail order from their wharehouse now. Doesn't sound as thought they've improved any.
I went in with a mate who wanted a pair of wheels. He knew exactly what he wanted, and Ribble told him that such a spec didn't exist. He even showed them their advert in Cycling Weekly, and they still refused to accept that the hubs existed.
Good luck.
They used to have dreadful reputation, right down there with Dave Hinde, but recent reports have been much better
In fairness, I've had two great bikes from them, which were a bit slow being built and sent, and lots of parts, that are usually cheap and prompt arriving.
Cockups like this aren't going to help their reputation though.
Buddy of mine went in to buy a road bike.
it took 6 weeks to eventually get his hands on it after handing the dosh over.
not the quickest shop around, thats for sure
I had an awful experience with them 10 years ago where they just lied to me for several months about my order, claiming to have posted, that it'd be in stock soon and so on. In the end I cancelled the order.
After that I stopped using them though I started using them again a couple of years ago without problems for really cheap stuff. I'd never use them just for normal stuff and it sounds like they might be up to their old tricks again...
Good luck...
They are dreadful when it comes to customer service. I ordered some wheels a few weeks back off them via the website, 2 weeks later they'd not arrived I phone them to ask why, they apparently didn't have any stock and had contacted me to tell me, strange thing was my phone never rang and my in box was empty. bare faced liars. Avoid!
Must be fun working for an outfit like that. Not.
These things are top-down. The policy is set at the top and the sharp practice is at the counter.
I have no experience of this lot because stories like this keep cropping up.
At least Halfords are just incompetent instead of evil like this lot.
Cheers, al.
Blimey, cheers for all your feedback. Wish i haddnt bothered with them now!!!!
The reason the director is dealing with it now is because i asked for an upgrade on the wheels by way of an appology for messing me around, still havent heard anything yet thats and i have to wait for a letter.
Problem is theres nothing you can do, theyve got my money and ive got half a bike and no way of sorting it out ๐
At least the director has a nice Aston Martin!
At least the director has a nice Aston Martin!
so does the guy at Merlin
common theme here guys.
Ribble have been great during the post strike 20% off of everything during the sale ordered Wednesday evening stuff arrived Friday morning. Previously there dispatch has been a bit idiosynchratic, but stuff does come, I've just never relied on them in a rush. Strangely my Condor road bike took weeks to come, but that's manufacturing in relatively small batches I guess, the stuff has to be physically made.
For cheap road kit they're great particularly if you're not in a rush, especially with the special offers they do.
An order I placed earlier this year took a while to turn up so I called them. The guy I spoke to was very friendly and apologetic and sent them on a priority service. Got them next day with a bunch of complimentary bits and bobs and a handwritten note of apology.
I'd use them again.
Take it up with the credit card company and ask for a refund.
"or is it just me"
no mate nowt to do with me ๐
They were closed for stocktaking that could have slowed things up!
I once arranged and made the special trip down to Ribble. From what I could gather they were snowed under with orders with a long wait. I just didnt feel the love just the impression that there was a quite shop, a fair few staff who should be building/posting out bikes if they were snowed under?! Sorry, this isnt a critism Ribble, its an observation. I'd say something far ruder about Winstanleys.
Ordered some kit from them a few years ago which did take quite a while to get here but it eventually did. Sadly they sent out the wrong hole year hub but it did get sorted in the end. Just slow IMO but the price was the best I could find at the time.
I have used them fr other stuff and it has arrived much more quickly. I'd use them again if price was very competitive on am item.
It would take to long to tell you why I'd not buy of them. But if they were the last bike shop in the world I'd take up running.
Puts wallet away (I was looking at buying one of their carbon frames) aftersales is crucial on bike stuff as things do go wrong and who wants to keep chasing shops etc?
Think I'll pay more and go elsewhere now.
Thanks for the info on Ribble.
They have a dreadful customer service. My one and only experience was with a faulty jacket I'd bought - under 2 weeks old. They refused a straight swap. Repeatedly fobbed me off with routine excuses. Finally got the jacket back repaired a month and a half later. Telling lies on the phone is all a big part of the Ribble customer service.
Never again.
I got a pair of Pro-Lite wheels from them as with 15% discount they were doing, they came up within my budget. Postage is free on orders over 50, but bigger items have a surcharge. That's fine and I paid that but if I pay around a tenner for posting the wheels I would like to have them reasonably quick as it's not the free postage option. It took them 2 weeks to deliver the wheels and after my email I've sent after 1.5 week they didn't even write anything in the reply "sorry for the delay" or a reason just that the wheels will be sent next day. If I knew I would have to wait 2 weeks I would just go for some Shimano wheels from CRC and have them 2 days later.
I really cant understand anybody going near them with the amount of negative information out there about them, you only have to go to any road forum or google it to see this for yourself
Add to this that there are better off the peg bikes available, OK i admit for a little bit more money but at least you will have a bike you can ride with some confidence that they will support you down the line with any problems.
Sorry, i should be more sympathetic but i think its a case of more fool you.
The reason I still use them is that my various experiences of them have not been that bad - I know they aren't the fastest, but I wasn't expecting them to be. For every internet horror story about them, there must be dozens of transactions that go through with no problems.
But then I'm the guy who has ordered from Dave Hinde twice in the past and had no problems either.
E-mail the link to this thread?

Nail on the head. I expect a business to deal with any aftersales issues as fast as they took your payment at the till.
Swadey, once bitten forever shy.

how can you know that ? It might be 1:1
I don't even go in and I live less than 400metres away from the shop. When they used to sell mountain bikes they were grumpy then. The window at the front of their shop has been smashed for a while now still not sorted that out lazy buggers lol.

Yep they didnt seem in too much of a rush when I was there
