[#2449368]

.. so now I am preparing to ride to my new work tomorrow morning. 16 pretty flat miles on open country roads on the road bike, and I am really looking forward to it. I'm sitting here visualising and anticipating hammering along, feeling that good burn, carving through the lanes.

I seem to have really missed cycling 🙂

It will be horrible, the wind will be in your face both ways & the rain will find its way inside your jacket within the first mile.

Oh and the hedges will have just been cut so you will get multiple punctures.

HTH 😉

Second time for me back out on the bike this morning after a month off. I find it a bit weird to start, first ride is always a bit off, feel slow and tired, but second ride is normally OK. Bit better and by the end of it my legs have remembered how to push the pedals properly and it's almost like I'd not stopped.

🙂

October for me and being getting all set to get back out but sadly now getting some nasty pain in my hip where I had an op 20 years ago. Awaiting X-ray results I'm still planning on riding this week if I can but it's a bit unnerving.

Overshoot, cheers - now I am just imagining being knackered and unfit.

I had my first ride for 4 months on sunday because of a broken finger. It was a simple loop of the GT red (15km?) but was bloody knackered, I've still got a sore arse today. I won't lie though, I had a fantastic day - rain, mud, friends and cake!

My last ride was on my birthday at the end of November. Worryingly, I'm not overly missing it...

(I'm sure I'll go for a ride again soon and remember how good it is though!)

It'll be good- hope you don't get lost. Not sure I'd make my first ride for a while one that's in a new town, new country and new job that I hope to arrive at on time.

Any mountainbiking where you are?

mol, do it and keep at it... I'm in the same boat, due to other commitments (masters and 1yr old son) I haven’t been on the mountain bike for an age.

Got a road bike and have started riding to work last week... Started doing 15 mile one way trips with a 2 way on friday (drive in monday, ride back monday pm, ride in tues am, drive back tues pm etc with a 2 way on friday) as I thought going from 0 to 150miles a week might be a bit too much.

feel so much better for it, and my legs of old are in there somewhere... did the 15 miles (with a few hills) in sub hour today... so happy with that...

Vinney, not worried about the actual riding. It's only been a couple of months and I've been doing this long enough now it's automatic. Getting lost is a potential issue though, that's why I didn't do it during my first week 🙂 Gonna take maps and use the GPS.

It's the best way to get to work I reckon, the trains are such that I have to back into Munich three stops then back out which takes an hour all-in including walks, I reckon I can do 16 flat miles easily in 45 mins leaving 15 for shower. Given that I don't then need to do any more training in the week it saves me tons of time. Even the car is not much quicker at 30 mins and besides Mrs Grips can use it if I don't.

Dunno about mtbing - no idea about German access laws. If I can get back and bring an MTB over I'll have to find out.

My ride in is pretty flat (with a couple of minor lumps) and is 17 miles. I allow for an hour each way, which is what it takes more or less. I leave by 7.30, and am at my desk for 9.

Back in the summer I was doing 5 days a week (so 170 miles), although I'm now down to 3 days. It will take it out of you, so be aware how tired you'll get.

Yeah I've done this before. I did Cardiff-Bristol last year and messed it up a bit by going too hard in the first week. It was a hell of a lot further tho, 42 miles each way instead of 16. Not worried about the distance.

Plus I'm on a road bike so those kinds of speeds are easy on the flat.

I hadn't ridden since November, went for a ride on Sunday. It felt like I was dying when I first set off!

If it's any consolation, I feel like that every time I go out on the bike even when I'm out 3 or 4 times a week!

first ride since november and your riding 16 miles to your new job. So you turn up bright red sweaty knackered talk about how to make a good first impression. Why not use some other transport this week, go for a ride at the weekend to see how you get on and then ride in next week. Just a thought

Right, got in at 10.25 this morning 😳 ride was a bit tough at first, then seemed to loosen up. Cycleways are good on the rural roads but not so good in town being plagued as always with entrances, driveways, pedestrians, trees etc. Took me a little over an hour with lots of stopping to look at the map etc and a few wrong turnings. 28.8km and 108m of climbing, almost all of that was in one hill at the end.
