It looks an absolutely fantastic movement, but I can see conflict with driving organisations (and possibly the odd school who might moan about having to supply the bike storage).

Trouble with this topic is it's such a simple awesome thing that there's not much to say about it other than it's a simple awesome thing.
I wonder if it could be extended to include adults, ie, not just on school routes? Could you have someone riding a set route at a set pace with some sort of 'thing' that means the traffic lights stop all the cars at every junction.
Or maybe a sort of 'Road Closure' bike at the front and a 'Road Open' bike at the back and between the two everyone has right of way at all junctions?
I'm sure it wouldn't work but it would be a better job than being an actual bus driver, imo 🙂
Ah, hadn't realised that there'd be a thread on the Glasgow one (I did do a search) although the article/video above shows it to be a worldwide phenomenon.
It looks an absolutely fantastic affair and relevant to current issues like climate change, obesity/health and mental health. It would be great to see it countrywide (as well as worldwide).
Glasgow's (currently unique) traffic light controller surely says that the local council is onboard, which has to be a good thing.

How do all the kids and parents get to where the Bike Bus starts? They surely can't all live in the same place - if they are cycling there why not cycle straight to school as they'll have cycled through traffic already to get there? If they a driving with bikes in cars to the Bike Bus start...
It works for primary schools whose kids actually live in the neighbourhood. It doesn't work for private schools whose students are BMW'd in from across a three county area.

My understanding is that it works like a bus, runs to a timetable and has a regular route and stops where new riders join; they'd only have to cycle to the stops.

Think of it more like a bus than a group ride. There's a set route with 'stops' so people get on and off the bus depending on where they live and which school they are going to.
I challenge anyone to watch that video and not feel a little bit better about the world.
I agree it is a wonderful thing - and I have worked in that school and had the biggest smile on my face as I stopped to allow the kids through.
