[#3772584]

Because I could be moving to somewhere very flat I've gone and sold my Specialized Pitch and bought a cheap hardtail frame, a 456 summer season.

However I cant help but feel I've made a massive mistake ๐Ÿ™

Am I going to regret it for ever?

no, you'll die before 'for ever' arrives' ๐Ÿ˜‰

It's a bike, you'll enjoy riding it.

Tbh, if it's *really* flat then I'd have gone for something lighter to get the miles in but the SS is a good frame.

"456ss's are rubbish on the flat "

horribly slack for on the flat i find - mines hasnt turned a wheel since france as it was horrific even riding down the valley floor to the funnicular.

great on the downs though

How flat is flat? A pitch isn't going to be much use somewhere there's no hills.

If its really flat (Norfolk say) then I'd probably have gone for an uber light XC bike, or even a CX bike rather than a 456 even.

Do you plan on travelling to trail centres elsewhere occasionally still, in which case that would be the only time I think you might regret it...

Er its really flat ๐Ÿ˜‰ hence the reason for dropping the pitch however I'm not there yet and I also plan to visit the folks in the peaks.

Figured the SS would do for now I suppose I can always re-assess once im there

FWIW, neither my original Steel 456 or my later Ti456 were particularly happy bimbling about on the flat. They always felt better when they were 'doing something'.

Sorry.

And you could die tomorrow, so why not give me all you cash just in case...

Wouldn't it have been better to wait 'til you'd moved?

Can you wind your fork down? Would be cool at around 4 inches on the flat.

Doing something = going faster?
My 456SS feels great at speed on flat stuff.

As someone living in Norfolk, I'd recommend something Soul shaped. Perfect for flat but still a lot of fun when you go away. I had a Pitch and it was only really fun about 10% of the time.

I've just taken my Pitch apart after thinking Bristol and my regular riding spots were to flat.
It just felt wasted 80% of the time.
Now on a Bfe so will see ๐Ÿ™‚
My old 456 wound down to 100mm travel was ok on the flat.IMHO

Probably but I kitesurf too and want a new kite seemed a good idea to kill two birds with one stone!

Fair do's I used to do loads of driving for surfing and tbh now it's not for me the odd trip rocks but I dont want to be doing it every weekend.

This is kinda where I'm at just feel a bit, for want of a better phrase, over biked and that I'm only using the bike to its potential 10% of the time. Don't get me wrong chuffing amazing bike will be very sad to see it go

I wouldnt have sold the bike, I would have brought a more fuel efficient car so I could drive to the hills as cheaply as possible.
