Lesson: when bleeding SLX brakes, when it comes to tightening up the caliber bleed nipple and then flicking the lever, make sure you've wedged something between the Pistons. I hadn't, one piston in the garden and fluid everywhere.

I tried shoving it back in and refilling, but I've got copious amounts of fluid seeping past it. I guess the seals are done.

If I recall, shimano seals are not replaceable - have I killed it?

Cheers

It's possible- the seals could have got displaced when the piston popped out, and possibly damaged when you replaced them. But too early to say, stripping, inspecting and carefully rebuilding will tell you more

You can't buy the seals but a caliper with a set of pads is £22.50 so the price difference between that and seals isn't huge. Sometimes you can use parts from other models- I rebuilt an XTR caliper with an XT caliper for parts doner, ages back- but I don't know what interchanges today.

Thanks north wind. Rplacement caliper sounds the way to go.

I wouldn't give up on it yet, even if you're not used to servicing brakes the caliper is pretty simple stuff so if you've got the time, have a fanny about with it, what's the worst that can happen?
