[#6351358]

It's been a while since I bought anything bike related but the new Nanolight has me wanting to change my road bike.

I notice that there's next to no options to customise and their stock seems pretty scarce on wheels, and what not. Are they just concentrating on the full bike, set build market or are they just waiting for a bunch of containers?

They have grown like crazy over the last couple of years. Many would say they've grown too fast. There are quite a few complaint threads on STW along those lines. I'm more familiar with the On-one stuff than the PX line, though.

Their designer, Brant, left a few weeks ago as well.

Waiting on containers, wheels have new graphics, Shimano owe us lots of cassettes and chainsets. The available options palette has been simplified on the website on some bikes to simplify stock management and customer choice. If you have a need for a particular part that isn't on the option list then customer service or the guys in the Sheffield store can advise on availability.

I heard that somewhere but hadn't been able to verify.

I suspect, and its a suspect, that the companies supplying them may have clamped down a lot on grey sales, its easy enough to get a load of gruppos and wheels to flog off when you're small, but as you get bigger people start to notice - especially when you're running sites like priceshaggers.com

Its a shame that they have stopped the custom builds. But entirely understandable at the same time...

I've usually had fair dealings with PX so this isn't intended to be a PX bashing thread. Thanks for the responses though, I was looking at upgrading wheels but the selection of stock wheels really isn't what I expected. Oh well, I'll procrastinate for a while longer before realising that my SL Pro is absolutely fine.

Ninfan, if you think PX purchase outside the usual supply chain channels for their branded goods you are mistaken. They purchase direct from the national, or where appropriate international distributors or as directed by the manufacturer. Obviously their own brand OEM goods come direct from the manufacturer where there are no back channels.

You can't buy 5,000 shimano ultergra group sets from some German geezer with a couple of vw transporters and a wooly jumper.

If the only man at PX/OO interested in customer care leaves then that's a big deal to any prospective customers.

I'd agree with this. Given how many fires he used to put out on here, I would imagine some people might be put off with this particular safety net being removed.

I work at PX, so I'm happy to help out with any issues anyone might have. Hopefully I can catch some of those dropped balls when they happen. I don't have the historical product knowledge Brant has but I know the right people to ask when I don't know an answer.

Feel free to contact me via the planetx sheffield facebook account.

In the past I've tracked goods by serial number that says otherwise, 'nuff said? 😉

Didnt it get thrown because neither side knew if it would fall foul of EC anti competition laws, pretty sure if you say you can have a sole distributor for a company then the real moneymakers ,the lawyers get all uppety re anti competition in the EU

Pretty sure they EU can fine any company up to 10 percent of their revenue

Speaking as a h8er, I thought PX/On One have done quite a lot to detoxify themselves lately. Not perfect but at least transforming them from dishonest to mildly incompetent. But I fully expect it to be a rapid slide back into the shit from here.

Podge, ooooer, funny that they'd be happy to sell the helmets that cheaply in one territory, but then get pissy when PX try to do the same thing in the UK. Anyone would think they were trying to protect prices...

So they don't grey import but when they do its not their fault? It's the fault of the people who do the marketing, built the brand in the UK and supported customers, what awful people.

Didn't this lead to the then importers dropping the helmets?

Sounds more like Bell used PX to precipitate dropping Madison, isn't business just littered with twists and turns.

Maybe Ninfan can enlighten us, where were the serials traced back to?
😉

Sounds like giro were pricing high in the UK and making nice margins then some nasty boys found the same item for less in other markets so purchased a container load and sold them to us in the UK at a good price.

Then some of you think that is bad ??? Sounds good to me esp as its the same product

That's why the uk is referred to as 'treasure island' in the sporting good markets.

Any road, the offer to help with any issues wherever possible stands.

You really are a bit thick.
Imagine you own a company, and have the sole distribution rights to a brand and their products.
You put a lot of time, money and effort in to building that brand in the uk.
Putting it out there and gaining consumer confidence that said products were quality items and creating a market for said products.

And then find some theiving spotty Herbert was importing them through unofficial channels, undercutting you and making a profit of the back of all your hard work.

That would be fine would it.

many of the major brands don't need any brand building or massive marketing investment by the uk distributors... and personally I think that old excuse is a bit thin in this day and age. if u look at the prices other eu countries can retail the same brands at, there is a fundamental issue somewhere. why that is I'm not sure but some one out there should be able to explain. many big brands simply bury their heads in the sand assuming no one compares pricing across continents.

note: edited to say even when you take into account currency exchange and shipping some margin dfferences are shocking

It was easy to just type "Brant, Brant, Brant" and have him appear to solve the problem! 🙂

WTF is gonna remember to type "sq225917, sq225917, sq225917" FFS! 😡 He does seem to know about kiteboards and vinyl records; we'll see if that is useful on here. 😉

I just went to look for my latest edition of singletrack magazine but must have thrown it away.
I wanted to see out of how many pages in total there were how many of those pages were brand advertising, not geoffs cycle emporium but brand/product advertising.

I am guessing a fair few.

chip, genuine question here, do you know who pays for the marketing in a territory? Is it the local distributor such as Madison or does the money come from the manufacturer, Giro, or is it a bit of both?

If Madison pay for all UK marketing then they need to recoup this money through sales by supplying UK shops. Having no revenue from PX, etc. selling a imported identical product in their territory must be a little frustrating. If Giro pay some or all of the costs then it becomes a little different I suppose.
