Just been to see my uncle who's in a care home & he was checking his bank statements, Nat West have been taking out £625 a quarter for the past 18 months on a standing order & he hasn't a clue what for. He was refunded one payment when he queried it but still hasn't been paid the rest back. Now before you all shout 'how come he's just realised' etc etc, he's 84, lost his wife last year & has recently moved homes & I didn't know till now! So my Mrs has written to the Rats Nest asking why, how, when, proof of, & so on.
Would it be impertinant to charge them an admin fee plus interest on the £3750? (just like those robbing bast**ds would)
If it turns out It's all above board, then why would they give him one payment back?
PS, he's an ex National Westminster Bank manager but has been retired 25 years!
I tried once, in the days where cheques took days to clear. My car was written off and I banked the insurance cheque and asked for a bankers draft the same day, to be told they couldn't, because with clearing etc. i'd be overdrawn for 2 days. For which I'd get a fee plus charges for the quarter, which worked out at thousands of % on the money while it was overdrawn.
So i wrote to the manager requesting they increased my deposit account interest to 1/100th of the rate they were charging me.
They did agree to waive the overdraft fee......
Probably he has upset someone.
Seriously though, it may just be an input error on behalf of a greedy banker, demand the money back.
interest is perfectly ok, i think the law actually says 8%. as for an admin fee? compensation for stress might be more likely.
