Obviously the first choice would be the Pentlands, but I'm looking for trails closer to home, trying not to reply on using the car everytime I want to go out on the mountain bike.

My keen spidey sense for trails has diminished in the last few years and I can find patches of singletrack, but nothing that really leads to anything.

Any ideas of anything I might be missing?

You would probably be better posting on the trail scotland website as they are pretty good at posting local stuff.

Beecraigs is good, but you've got a few killer hills to get there.
Union Canal is ok, not hilly obviously and theres pubs along the way in both directions.
Almondell country park is good, sometimes muddy, and sometimes you'll find a trail thats very secluded. Loads of trails towards West Calder/Polbeth, Morton Reservoir, Bangour hospital around West Binny and Oatridge College.

Best bet is to get Ordnance Survey maps 349 and 350. You'll be amazed at the amount of marked trails within half and hours pedalling of your home. ๐Ÿ˜€
