Any rocky tech at Hamsterley? Going on Friday and just wondering what the options are besides riding the marked stuff and the bike park DH trails?
Thanks!
Some rooty stuff but not really rocky apart from the machine built trails. Enough fun for a full day out though, even just riding the park and marked trails. Just avoid the pointless forest road loop part of the red and cut across to Poltys and K Line.
You should be able to find the off piste stuff with Strava or maybe trailforks
The bike park isn't all DH either, there's a 4x line and some trails around the main DH lines so worth exploring.
Nothing really rocky and techy. Some rocks as features but mainly smooth machine built trails and rooty stuff off piste. It's a good day out and I agree with the suggestion above to avoid the main red climb.
Plenty almost tech over towards Dangerous Descent and above Blackling Hole, but you will probably need a local guide.
You need to get to Stainburn if you’re after rocky tech trails. Hamsterley is mostly roots (bloody roots)
Doctors Gate Descent and then the Rocky Road down to the river is the only rocky(ish) section I can think of. Worth doing as well I reckon.
Rockier bits on the main trails.
Pikes teeth top section
Doctors gate descent
666 climb
Single-track on way out of red from crossing point first time and final climb on that trail
Transmission
Section 13
The trail that splits from the 2nd jump on the 4x track is probably the outright rockiest though but rules are full face helmet and day pass to ride that one.
If you wanted just plain old rocky technical trails then T******* (the trails that cannot be named) are the best in the North East.
@benpinnic - Broadly, where might "the trails that cannot be named" be located?
We're heading to Hamsterley as not done it before, ride Stainburn all the time so wanted to ride somewhere different, but not too "groomed".
Anyone know what the conditions are like at Hamsterley atm?
Thanks
I’m assuming The Trails That Cannot Be Named is Thrunton. Hammers is wet and muddy at the mo. Knobbly tyres needed if you ask me.
