Im looking to get a do anything 29er wheelset built to cope with canal paths, rocky Peak trails, child carrying etc and was considering a build with Hope Pro II hus and Freedom rims. Does anybody hereabouts use these? Any alternatives?
Budget is upto £300.

I'm darnsure that Coastkid has them on his 29er, with Prow's too. Think he'll be home soon and will probably see this thread, but I'll let him know someone's asking.

I've had a few pairs of wheels with these rims.
I'd go for something else TBH.

I had an old set of 26" freedom rims which were pretty good.
Was going to relace the hubs to new freedom rims. But when i handled them in the shop i thought the quality of the new shipment was pretty shocking. The paint job was terrible and the rim join was very noticable with a large step up visible.

I have the 26 freedom discs. just replaced the bearings in the front wheel after 12 months use but quite easily serviceable yourself and they are not as heavy as others make out!

I've got a pair of freedom disc 29er wheels on my bike. I like them, not too heavy and pretty durable. For what I paid I think the finish is OK and they accept nice wide tyres. I've found the bearings to be pretty long lived. Just kept the grease levels in the rear freehub topped up.

They're a bit heavier than the DT Swiss 470s on my other pair of 29er wheels, but other than that, they're just rims. They do what they're supposed to and I haven't broken them yet.

They do look good in white though. 8)

as with all the good comments about them above,no pinch flats yet with Twinrails or Ardents, never had rear bearings fail on pro 2s yet, even after 2000miles on one used for beachriding, fronts seem to go quite often but cheap to replace, thumbs up here 😮

Thanks for the collective input. the white ones look good, had assumed I'd go for black, but maybe now....
coastkid, do you ever run the ProII rear SS? If so, do wide based SS cogs keep the free hub in good nick?

Have them on my Swift, built on Hope Pro2s, if they are classed as a bit porky there must be some bloody light wheels out there. No complaints here, I really like the deep section rims looks wise too. I think mine came in around £280

not yet but going to soon with a spare hub on a kona Humu frame Once i machine 2mm off of each spacer to fit the 130mm dropouts!, the splines on most of my hubs are marked but so far hasnt caused any problems, though i will try and find a wide based SS kit to reduce any wear, any SS conversion kit recomendations from anyone?,

I am running an Andel (Surly) cog, Velosolo spacers and a Token lockring on mine all from Velosolo, no marking yet but its only been a couple of months of light usage.

Yep I've got Freedom 29er's on Hope ProII's.

Not the lightest of builds but I've given them some abuse (21.5 stone off 2-3ft drops to flat landings) and they have been fine.

If you want light weight then look elsewhere but if your not worried about that then they are a good option IMO.
