[#1102940]

Has anyone ever had any detailed information back from Halfords in response to questions asked? Looking at a new bike through cycle to work (GT Aggressor Elite) and was wondering the turnaround time in their responses. So far I've called their 'help' line three times and posted a couple of questions on their site, but they seem to be devoid of any information whatsoever.

Just looking for frame geometry on the 18", I'm wondering whether to get it or something else totally different from elsewhere. The Maxle Revs are the deal clincher I reckon, if the bike turns out to be a barge I can donate everything else onto a new frame.

Alasdair - geometry is readily available on the GT site

Gary,

it's not - it's a Halfords exclusive so GT don't list it on their site.

Could be, I'll look into that. I'm prepared to wager that Halfords don't know that though as I'd have had a response by now!

If GTs are the same as old, the geometry on the XC range is pretty much the same across the board, my Zaskar and Tempest were exactly the same.

For what its worth, i've found the Halfords instore staff to be extremely helpful.

I don't think it's the XC range though as it's got a 140mm fork.

I too have occasionally found the store staff helpful, just limited by some appalling processes

If it's that bad, my other option is to just buy it then donate all the parts onto a 456 or at least any frame designed for the fork length.

My advice.... Go to a bike shop and sort it.... They will give you much better advice and service.

...and they'll charge a few hundred quid more for a lower spec bike.

The Halfords website doesn't get much attention, I know that... Are you going to the general Halfords helpline or the specific cycle to work one? In the run up to christmas they'll be pretty busy pretending to be PDI'ing cheap kids bikes so things might be slower.

The Aggressor's pretty nice though, I nearly CTW'd one myself just for parts ๐Ÿ˜‰ My local branch had one in stock btw, might be worth checking.

Halfords are crap it's a fact.

The GT's are not made by Gt but some factory where they are badged as GT-the name is franchised by Halfrauds.

Try your LBS...

We still laugh when we remember going into Halfrauds in Staines and asking a young assistant where the car horns were.

'We don't sellum any more' was the reply.

She went away and guess what was on the shelf right behind where her arse was!

X2.

Northwind

A lower spec bike, which in all probability will have a better frame, better geometry, better dealer support, better warranty support and it might help support the cycle industry in the uk instead of say...destroying it ala halfords and crc.

Imagine a world where the only place you can touch a new bike or get it fixed is your lbs, and they are all halfords? And everything else is online!

BTW, if you anyone on here worked for halfords money would you give a shit?

Mistergnar - that's what I'm trying to find out, i.e. the geometry. If, as I suspect, it handles like a barge, I'll spend 150 quid on a 456 and have a better bike than I would have had I bought off the shelf. 140mm Maxle Revs on an 1150 quid steel hardtail really ain't that bad.

I don't see much difference between what Halfords do and what other manufacturers do. Take Genesis, a brand for Madison, Shimano's UK importer for example. Same idea, economies of scale but Halfords is much maligned because of previous failings.

While we may turn our noses up at Halfords, at least they've got plenty folk into riding.

Was in the Braehead branch this very morn, and not overly impressed by customer service. The little attention I did get was prompt though.

Just adding my tuppence-worth to the debate. Pester power led me to a purchase however. Damn that Santa chappy, and all the expectation he fosters in the younger minds.

MisterGnar, what's wrong with the frame exactly? And the warranty? And especially the geometry? I'm sure you've got in-depth knowledge of this particular bike which is leading you to these comments...
